CHIBA LOTTE MARINES

...Lost in Translation? When Bobby Valentine told Norifumi Nishimura (head coach) that he wanted "Gori" (a nickname for Toshiaki Imae) in the starting line-up playing third, Nishimura mistakenly heard that as "Hori" (as in Koichi Hori) and inserted him into the starting line-up instead.

HANSHIN TIGERS

...Norihiro Akahoshi was taken off the active rosters on Sunday due to chronic neck pains. Akahoshi likely aggravated his neck when he stole second against the Chunichi Dragons on June 30.

...Jeff Williams is set to begin a throwing program on the 7th, assuming he feels no pain in his left shoulder.

HIROSHIMA CARP

...He Giveth and he Taketh Away: Andy Phillips went 1-for-3 with a home run and 4 RBI on Sunday against the Yokohama Bay Stars. But he also botched a play in left that led to an unearned run in the 5th. This would mark the second consecutive game in which Phillips has made an error.

OTHER

...Pacific League Umpire Masao Yanada appeared in his 1,000th game on Sunday. He was the first base ump in the Eagles - Lions game at Kleenex Stadium.
