Around the NPB Horn: Nobumasa Fukuda homers in his first pro NPB at bat

...Nobumasa Fukuda became the 49th player to hit a home run in his first pro NPB at bat when he nailed a 1-2 fastball off Swallows reliever Takehiko Oshimoto over the left field wall in the top of the 9th of last night's game.


...The Tigers committed 5 errors against the Carp last night at Hard Off Niigata Stadium: Shinobu Fukuhara (1st inning), Keisuke Kano (1st inning), Aarom Baldiris (6th inning), Keisuke Kano (8th inning), and Ikuro Katsuragi (8th inning).


...Takeshi Hidaka was taken off the active rosters due to pain in his right thigh. The Buffaloes hope to have him back, at the latest, after the All-Star break.

...Alex Cabrera was back with the parent club for the first time since fracturing his right pinky toe on April 23. He went 1-for-4 with 2 strike outs and an RBI.


...Takayuki Kishi required 138 pitches for his first complete game of the season. The Lions beat the Fighters 6-4.


...Kyohei Muranaka was making his first start since August 20th, 2008 -- he was on the DL with ligament damage in his left elbow (左ひじ側副靭帯損傷). He didn't have a very good night, going 5 innings while giving up 5 runs (all earned) on 6 hits, 3 strike outs, and 2 walks.


...Season first: Hayato Sakamoto was held without a hit in his second straight game.

...The oldest living Giant, 97-year-old Hachiro Maekawa, threw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the start of last night's game against the Bay Stars. He joined the Giants in 1936 after graduating from Kokugakuin University.

...Michihiro Ogasawara hit his 147th Tokyo Dome yesterday against the Yokohama Bay Bay Stars, surpassing Hideki Matsui for most homers in the Dome. The home run was off Kazuki Yoshimi in the bottom of the third.


...Representatives from Taiwan's CPBL will be in Japan to discuss the future of the Asia Series with the NPB offices. Taiwan is expected to propose moving the Asia Series site to Taiwan, or to introduce a rotation system that allows each of the 4 leagues the opportunity to host the series.
