The 80th Intercity Baseball Tournament (Japan)

The 80th Intercity Baseball Tournament will begin on August 21st and will run for 12 days. All games will be played at the Tokyo Dome and will be in single-elimination format.

    This tournament is also great fun to go to! The marching bands are fantastic and the teams are often really fun to watch, plus you get to see some guys before they get drafted in the shakaijin draft. Last year I inadvertantly watched Junichi Tazawa pitch two games before the Red Sox thing broke, mostly because I was there to boo Hisayoshi Chono. Go figure.

    (Honda’s band and cheerleaders and team all rock, I just harbor an unnatural resentment for Chono for being a complete idiot.)

    I’m a little sad that Toshiba beat JFE Higashinihon (there are a couple of guys on JFE that I’ve followed for a while and still never get to see play), but then again it’d be neat to see some of the Toshiba guys too.

    Also, you can sit in the cushy balcony seats for 1500 yen for a day. Can’t beat that
