Fighters' manager Masataka Nashida spoke with Seibu Lions' and Pacific League manager Hisanobu Watanabe on Saturday about Yu Darvish's workload at the All-Star game. Watanabe plans on starting Darvish in front of the home town fans at Sapporo Dome for Game 1. Nashida asked Watanabe to hold Darvish to just 1 inning.
Watanabe received a similar request from Softbank Hawks' manager Koji Akiyama with regards to Toshiya Sugiuchi.
After being told not to use two of the top pitchers in the PL for more than an inning, Watanabe was quoted as saying, "What's the point of the All-Star game?"
With Darvish and Sugiuchi on 1-inning limits, that opens the door to Watanabe using his own pitchers, Takayuki Kishi and Hideaki Wakui.
"I think I'll have each of them throw 3 innings," said Watanabe.
