Around the NPB Horn: Kazuyoshi Tatsunami needs only 1 more hit to tie Nagashima

Chiba Lotte Marines

...Naoyuki Shimizu struck out his career 1,000th batter in last night's game when he struck out Tanaka in the bottom of the 4th. Shimizu becomes the 123rd player to accomplish the feat.

...Toshiaki Imae was diagnosed with a slight strained hamstring on Tuesday. Imae apparently suffered the injury while running the bases. He likely won't start Wednesday's game.

...Kei Hosoya won't be on the roster for the Fresh All-Star game and will be replaced by Takumi Kobe.

Chunichi Dragons

...Kazuyoshi Tatsunami picked up his 2,470th career hit last night against the Carp when his hit a pinch-hit double in the bottom of the 6th off Hayato Aoki. Tatsunami needs just one more hit to move into a 7th place tie with Shigeo Nagashima on the All-Time hit list.

...The Dragons became the first team in the NPB to win 50 games this year when they beat the Carp 7-4 on Tuesday night.

Rakuten Eagles

...Takeshi Yamasaki has now hit at least 20 home runs in each of the past 3 seasons.

...Todd Linden was fined 50,000yen and given a strong warning for arguing ball and strikes with the home plate ump on Monday night and then getting thrown out of the game..

Softbank Hawks

...Takahiro Mahara picked up his 118th save of his career last night against the Rakuten Eagles, breaking the previous franchise record holder's (Rodney Pedraza) mark of 117.

...Jose Ortiz was held out of the starting line-up on Tuesday night due to pain in his left flank. The Hawks will take it easy with Ortiz.

...The Hawks have now down 10,017,664 fans since they changed their name in 2005.

Yokohama Bay Stars

...Shuichi Murata hurt his left flank when he hit a long foul in his first at bat against the Yomiuri Giants on Tuesday night.

Yomiuri Giants

...Hayato Sakamoto was held out of the starting line-up for the second straight game due to lower back pain. He will likely get the day off on Wednesday as the Giants travel to Nagano for their final game against the Bay Stars.

    Your post inspired me to check out how well Linden was doing — not too bad so far (.306/.359/ .500).

    I think Linden has been a nice surprise for the Eagles.

    And it looks like he’s taken well to the lead-off spot — he’s 10-for-32 with 4 runs, 2 homers and 4 RBI over 7 games.
