Yusei Kikuchi appeared in yesterday's game in relief as scouts from the Hanshin Tigers, Chunichi Dragons, Seibu Lions, and New York Yankees watched on.
When Kikuchi entered the game in the 5th, his team was down 3-2. But by shutting down Takata Senior High School over the final 5 frames, Kikuchi allowed his team enough time to stage a comeback.
Hanamaki Higashi High School ultimately went on to beat Takata Senior High School, 5-3.
Kikuchi tossed 5 shut-out innings and gave up 5 hits in relief and hit 152km/h on the radar gun.
Here's the kicker though:
"I wasn't really at my best. I'd put my outing somewhere between 30-40%," said Kikuchi after the game.
Not at his best and he still tosses 5 shut-out innings AND hits 152km/h on the radar gun...
One other thing that should be noted... Kikuchi slid head-first into first base in the 6th and got chewed out by his manager for not being more careful. He is now no longer allowed to slide head-first into first base anymore.
