It was a battle of the Kikuchi's in the Iwate Regionals: Yusei Kikuchi for Hanamaki Higashi High School vs Tatsuro Kikuchi for Morioka Daiichi High School. It was a close game, but when the dust settled, Yusei Kikuchi was the victor.

Tatsuro Kikuchi actually held a 1-0 lead for Morioka Daiichi, but Hanamaki Higashi staged a comeback in the bottom of the 7th when Yusei Kikuchi laid down a squeeze bunt to score the tying run. Yasutaka Kashiwaba later followed by driving in the go-ahead run to give Hanamaki Higashi a 2-1 lead.

Yusei Kikuchi tossed a complete game and struck out 13. He gave up a run on 4 hits and walked none. Kikuchi tossed 121 pitches and topped out at 149km/h.

The "other" Kikuchi also tossed a complete game and gave up 2 runs on 6 hits, 2 walks and struck out 7.
