It appears as though Yu Darvish will get to throw 2 innings.
"If I consider my body, 1 inning is probably the way to go, but that will put Hisanobu Watanabe (Lions' manager) in a tight spot," said Darvish. "And that means other starters will have to go 3 innings in relief instead."
When asked about whether or not he was concerned about starting with only 1 day of rest and how that might affect his approach to the game, Darvish replied, "Being careful about how I throw so I don't mess up the rest of the season? I'm not really thinking about that. I'm just going to go out on the mound as I normally do and just have fun out there."
Fighters' manager Masataka Nashida also appears to have given up on keeping Darvish to just 1 inning.
"When I checked things out with him, he said he'd be alright," said Nashida. "I think he wants to throw in front of the fans in Sapporo. It looks like he will be able to go 2 innings."
Masahiro Tanaka may get the call to relieve Darvish in today's game at Sapporo Dome.
