Around the NPB Horn: Darvish penciled in to make his start on the 31st

by on Jul.26, 2009 @ 1:39 pm, under NPB

Hanshin Tigers

...Jeff Williams was removed from the active roster due to pain in his left shoulder. This will be the second time he's been removed from the active roster due to problems with his left shoulder -- he was removed from the active roster in June with inflammation in his left shoulder.

...Yuya Nohara's Ikusei status was upgraded on Sunday and he is now on the regular roster. He was assigned the number 94.

Nohara is the first Japanese player on the Tigers to make his way on to the roster after joining the team as an Ikusei player. He arrived from the Baseball Challenge league earlier this season.

Nippon Ham Fighters

...Yu Darvish has a blog post about his accident during the first game of the All-Star Series.

A bruise in the middle of the deltoid muscle on the right shoulder

That's the diagnosis

It could have been a lot more serious,

but it turned out to be a minor injury.

I should be ok for the second half, so please don't worry about me p(^-^)q

He must be ok because he's been penciled in for a start on the 31st.

Yomiuri Giants

...Wirfin Obispo will likely start the first game of the second half when the Giants play host to the Chunichi Dragons for a three game set that starts othe 28th at Tokyo Dome.

Incidentally, I made a post about this earlier but accidentally mentioned the wrong players (I have since fixed that post). Instead of mentioning Dicky Gonzalez, I mentioned Alex Ramirez. Ramirez, of course, doesn't count toward the foreign player limit because he gained his FA eligibility last year. So the trio of Gonzalez, Kroon, and Greisinger will make it tough to keep Obispo up at Ichi-gun without some clever juggling.

...Seung-Yeop Lee will be joining the Ichi-gun squad for practice starting on Monday. Depending on how that goes, he may get a call back to re-join the Ichi-gun roster.

Other

...This year's amateur draft (as always, snake format) will begin with a Pacific League team. The PL won the right when it outscored the CL during the 2-game All-Star series, 15-14.

If the season were to end right now, it would be:

Orix , Yokohama, Lotte, Hanshin, Rakuten, Hiroshima, Seibu, Yakult, Softbank, Chunichi, Nippon Ham, Yomiuri

Nohara’s the first player to do that for Hanshin, you mean, right? I can’t think offhand of every single player that’s had ikusei success stories but at this point I think at least half the teams in Japan have had at least one… that being that half the teams tend to use the ikusei system and half the teams don’t.

Oo, and he’s from Omiya Higashi HS, too

Yeah, that’s what I actually meant. Although in reading what I wrote, I see I left that part out.

I’ll go ahead and fix that right now.
