Around the NPB Horn: Darvish getting ready for his start on Friday

Nippon Ham Fighters

...Yu Darvish tossed about 40 pitches on Tuesday in the bullpen in preparation for his start on the 31st.

Orix Buffaloes

...Greg LaRocca was diagnosed with a fracture in his fifth metacarpal bone in his right hand. LaRocca will be in a cast for at least 4 weeks -- no word on how long it will take him to get back into playing shape after that.

...The Orix Buffaloes will use Kanji characters on the scoreboard for their foreign players during a 3-game series against the Chiba Lotte Marines (8/7-9).

Softbank Hawks

...The Hawks announced that Tsuyoshi Wada had his left elbow checked out at a hospital in Tokyo on Tuesday. Reports indicate the the elbow is improving but the team still has no idea when Wada will be ready to return.

...Jose Ortiz went to a hospital on Tuesday and was diagnosed with a bruise on his left flank. He will not be removed from the active roster.

Yokohama Bay Stars

...Kimiyasu Kudo gave up 3 runs (all earned) in .2 of an inning last night against the Hanshin Tigers. The poor performance may have earned Kudo a ticket back to Ni-gun.

Yomiuri Giants

...Wirfin Obispo didn't help his cause any when he gave up 3 home runs to the Chunichi Dragons Tuesday night. In any case, the Giants decided to go with Dicky Gonzalez, Seth Greisinger, and Marc Kroon for the 3 foreigner spots on the roster.


...Games for the World Children's Baseball Foundation Friendship Event in Tokyo kicked-off on Tuesday. Participating countries: Australia, Cameroon, Canada, Germany, Taiwan, and Japan.
