...Hitoki Iwase picked up his 30th save of the season against the Yomiuri Giants on Thursday night and became the first pitcher in NPB history to have 5 consecutive seasons of 30+ saves.

...Yudai Kawai became the third pitcher in Central League history to start the season with 11 straight victories. The other two? Tsuneo Horiuchi (YOM) in 1966 and Manabu Kitabeppu (HIR) in 1988.

Orix Buffaloes

...Keiji Ohbiki was hit in the head by Shota Ohba while squaring around to bunt in the first inning of Thursday night's game against the Softbank Hawks. He actually remained in the game after that and struck out in the third before finally being lifted in the bottom of the 4th.

A hospital examination revealed no problems. And while Ohbiki is currently listed as day-to-day, he did say that he planned on playing on Friday.

Incidentally, Ohba was thrown out of the game, after throwing only 8 pitches, for hitting a batter in the head.

Softbank Hawks

...Jose Ortiz was taken off the active roster on Thursday due to continued pain in his left flank.

...Tsuyoshi Wada dropped by Yahoo Dome on Thursday to inform the team of the results from his examination at a Tokyo hospital on the 28th. Wada will continue his rehab program in Tokyo.

...Shinsuke Ogura had surgery to remove a bone spur in his left ankle. He will require about 3 months for a full recovery.

Yomiuri Giants

...Ryota Wakiya sprained his left ankle during pre-game practice on Thursday and will likely be taken off the active roster on Friday.
