Those Crazy Japanese High School Coaches…

by on Jul.30, 2009 @ 4:26 am, under NPB

A second year high school student at Yokohama Hayato High School is making headlines.

3 games.

3 complete games.

30 innings.

473 pitches.

Talk about throwing your arm off. But then Daisuke Matsuzaka most Japanese coaches don't believe in the idea that arms are only capable of throwing an X number of pitches.

Here's a breakdown of those 473 pitches:

July 26th - 165 pitches for a complete game 10-9 win in extra innings over Yokohama High School (knocking Yoshitomo Tsutsugo out of the Koshien).

July 28th - 143 pitches for a complete game 5-1 win over Toko Gakuen.

July 29th - 165 pitches for a complete game 6-5 win in extra innings vs. Toin Gakuin.

Who is he?

He is, "The Smiling Prince."

Or perhaps better known to his friends and family, Imaoka-kun (今岡一平).

It'll be interesting to see how this affects him for next year.

(I'd also list his first name, but unfortunately I'm not 100% sure if the kanji character for his first name reads "Ippei." I'll update this post when I find out what it is.)

BTW: for those wondering, he has thrown 685 pitches so far this summer.
