Around the NPB Horn: Jet balloons returning to K Stadium and Seibu Dome

by on Aug.03, 2009 @ 6:13 am, under NPB

Hanshin Tigers

...Ever since August 28th, 2005, the Tigers are 17-0-1 in games at Koshien Stadium when Takashi Toritani hits a home run.

...Norihiro Akahoshi apparently has internal bleeding in his left knee from when he slid into home base and came into awkward contact with Shinnosuke Abe in last night's game against the Yomiuri Giants. Akahoshi is to get additional testing today and the results from those tests will available tomorrow. Still, the team is taking things slowly and will be removing Akahoshi from the active roster.

Rakuten Eagles

...The Eagles announced that jet balloons will be allowed at Kleenex Stadium, starting with their 3-game series against the Nippon Ham Fighters on the 7th.

Seibu Lions

...Takeya Nakamura is currently hitting home runs at a pace of 1 every 2.67 games. If he can keep that up, he'll have 54 at the end of the season, 1 shy of the NBP record.

...The Lions announced that jet balloons will be allowed at the Seibu Dome, starting with their 3-game series against the Nippon Ham Fighters on the 4th.

Yakult Swallows

...The benches cleared in last night's game against the Swallows and Chunichi Dragons after Hei Chun Lee hit Masahiko Morino following Masahiro Araki's 3-run double that put the Dragons in front, 6-3 in the top of the 11th.

"It's too bad we lost," said Swallows' manager Shigeru Takada. "We should have won the game in the 9th or 10th. The brawl? Tipping the cap is a Japanese, how can you expect a foreigner to know?"

Yomiuri Giants

...Yoshinobu who? The Giants are apparently thinking about giving the somewhat brittle Yoshinobu Takahashi a try at first base. Takahashi also appears on board with the idea.

Other

...Of the 6 games on the schedule on Sunday night, 4 went into extra innings. The last time that happened was on July 14th, 2001.

...The Pacific League announced that the Seibu Lions and Rakuten Eagles will be playing a make-up game on October 4th at Kleenex Stadium.
