Around the NPB Horn: Swallows lose D’Antona for 3 weeks

Nippon Ham Fighters

...Atsunori Inaba will return to his regular spot on the field starting with the Seibu Lions series beginning tomorrow. He's been used primarily as a DH as he makes his way back from a minor injury.

Hanshin Tigers

...Norihiro Akahoshi returns to the parent club today. Akahoshi spent the last 2 days in the batting cage, taking about 50 cuts on Tuesday and 102 cuts on Wednesday.

...Senichi Hoshino took off for the US yesterday. As mentioned in prior updates, he will be in the US to support the Japanese team participating in the Cal Ripken World Series.

...Kentaro Sekimoto continues to improve while Jeff Williams rests his ailing left shoulder. He will probably begin throwing again sometime this week.

Softbank Hawks

...Hawks manager Koji Akiyama was so upset about last night's call at second base in the first inning (Kokubo was called out at second base, ruining a bases loaded situation) that he had this to say about the ump making the call:

"We're going to be in trouble if we have amateurs like that making the calls. This isn't sandlot baseball. Awful call."

I saw the replay and it did appear as though Kokubo was safe. A couple of sarcastic fans even left comments on Nico Nico Douga saying that the MVP of the game should have been the second base ump.

In any case, the team has filed a grievance with the league regarding the play.

Yakult Swallows

...Jamie D'Antona suffered a hamstring tear in last night's game and will be out for up to three weeks. This is a really tough break for the Swallows. He was taken off the active roster today.
