NPB Standings Update: Week 21

by on Aug.16, 2009 @ 10:46 pm, under NPB

Central League
The Dragons gained another game on the Giants and are now just 1.5 games back. The Dragons will be playing Hiroshima (12-3) and Yokohama (13-2) this week and could make a move up in the standings if they play their cards right.

The Swallows are hurting right now, both literally and figuratively. They are a distressing 4-10 so far this month and have lost a game in their third place lead over the Carp. The Swallows play 3 games against the Tigers (9-3) and Giants (3-10) this week and will need to try and get back on the winning track. But with both Jamie D'Antona and Shinya Miyamoto out with injuries, Norichika Aoki and Aaron Guiel will really need to pick up the slack offensively.

Pacific League
While the Fighters continue to win (10-4 in August), the Hawks appear to be hitting a bit of a wall (7-7 in August). And things could get uglier for them this week as they face the Lions (7-7) and Fighters (7-7) this week. They're only saving grace is that the Lions also appear to have hit a snag (5-9 in August). Couple that with a surging Eagles team and you have a fairly (9-5 in August) and you have a nice race developing for third place -- the Eagles have gone from 3.5 games back to just .5 games back behind the Lions.

The Lions will have the Marines (6-9) and Hawks (7-7) this week while the Eagles play the Fighters (7-8) and Buffaloes (10-2).
