How's THAT for a sensational title.
Seriously though, it seems like just about every ball club in the NPB is lining up behind Yusei Kikuchi right now.
The Eagles announced that they may designate Kikuchi as their first pick.
The Fighters mentioned that Kikuchi is at the top of their list, along with other players like Takeru Imamura from Seiho High School and Yoshitomo Tsutsugo from Yokohama High School. In all, the Fighters have 40 high school players on their list, 7-8 of which they feel could be first round picks. The Fighters GM Yamada also said that he'd like to go with a high school pick at number 1.
Incidentally, there's a lot of chatter going on right now because a number of teams tend to hold scout meetings during the Summer Koshien.
For example, the Hiroshima Carp held one on the 18th at Mazda Stadium and reviewed video footage of high school players. The Fighters held one on the 20th at their Sapporo ball club offices. And the Marines held theirs on the 16th in Osaka, as did the Tigers in Nishinomiya.
