Around the NPB Horn: Matsunaka’s right knee acting up

Orix Buffaloes

...The Buffaloes announced that Ryan Vogelsong will be returning to the States to be with his expecting wife. He leaves Sunday with no return date set.

Seibu Lions

...Kazuhiro Kiyohara donned the 1980's blue and whites for the first time in 13 years, with his number 3 on the back. Kiyohara was on hand for the Lions Classic 2009 festivities and stood in the batter's box for the ceremonial first pitch, thrown out by Tomio Watanabe, a teammate of Kiyohara's between 1989 and 1992.

Softbank Hawks

...Nobuhiko Matsunaka was not in the starting line-up on Saturday after aggravating his right knee during Friday's game. He left practice early on Saturday to get his knee checked out an returned during the game.

Matsunaka admitted that he can't really run at this point and will likely be held out of the line-up again tomorrow.

Yakult Swallows

...It was Eyemetrics Glasses Day 2009 at Jingu Stadium on Saturday. The team mascot, a few players and coaches showed off their glasses or tried on a pair of funny glasses.

Yokohama Bay Stars

...Seiichi Uchikawa was not in the starting line-up on Saturday after complaining about tightness in his right calf. Not wanting to take any chances, they team gave him the night off.
