by on Sep.04, 2009 @ 6:07 pm, under NPB

Chiba Lotte Marines

...For the first time since 2002, the Marines announced that they will be holding a 1 month long Fall camp starting from the middle of October.  The Fall camp will take place in three locations: Kagoshima City, Satsumasedai City, and Ishigaki City in Okinawa.

Hanshin Tigers

...The Tigers heard back from Jeff Williams on Thursday, but it appears as though he's still not sure about whether or not he'll have surgery.

Seibu Lions.

...The Lions announced that they will ban jet balloons at home games starting on the 8th.

Softbank Hawks

...Hidenori Tanoue became the first Hawks' catcher to hit 20 homers in a season since Kenji Johjima did it in 2005.  Tanoue nailed his 20th home run of the year off Masaki Ihara in the bottom of the 4th with 2 runners on in Thursday night's game against the Orix Buffaloes.

Tanoue also became only the 4th Hawks' catcher in club history to reach 20 home runs.

...The Hawks announced that they will not be selling jet balloons at home games starting with tonight's game against the Seibu Lions.

Yokohama Bay Stars

...The Bay Stars may take a look at a few Japanese pitchers that have spent time in the Majors this year, like Tomokazu Ohka (Indians) and Yasuhiko Yabuta (Royals), to help solidify their rotation next season. And according to a team rep, they are looking for at least 2-3 new starters.

The team will also likely take a look at Masahide Kobayashi (formerly with the Indians, now in Japan training).

Yomiuri Giants

...The Giants basically consider Dicky Gonzalez, Shun Tono, and Seth Greisinger as their 3 front-line hurlers this season and will likely try to give them as many remaining starts against the Chunichi Dragons as possible (6 games remaining - 9/21-9/23 and 9/28-9/30).

Incidentally, Greisinger will likely get the start (on 5 days rest) against the Swallows tonight.

...Tetsuya Utsumi held a 40 pitch bullpen session yesterday and will likely get the start on the 5th against the Yakult Swallows.

...Kentaro Nishimura continues to make strides as he makes his way back from surgery in his right elbow (performed in June). He played some long toss catch (36 throws) from a distance of about 50 meters.

...The NPB held a meeting on September 1st with 7 ball clubs from the Central and Pacific Leagues that could make it to the Nihon Series. For one reason or another the Tigers weren't included and were instead called to a separate meeting on the 3rd.
