Chunichi Dragons

...With the off-day on Friday, Masahiro Araki was able to rest his ailing left wrist for a third straight day. The wrist is still bothering him, but with the team in the middle of a 3-game slide, Araki will likely be in the starting line-up today against the Yokohama Bay Stars.

Hanshin Tigers

...Tomoaki Kanemoto has been struggling at the plate but he continues to get on base (his batting average dropped from .283 before the All-Star break to its current level of .261).  Kanemoto currently leads both leagues with 74 walks.

...Takahiro Arai is 11-for-28 at Mazda Stadium this year.

...Kodai Sakurai began his rehab treatments on Thursday.

...The Ni-gun player with the flu was diagnosed with the type A strain of the influenza virus and was sent to the hospital.  It still is not known whether or not the player has the swine flu or not.

The team is making moves to protect it's players, requiring all Ni-gun players to wear masks during travel periods.  They have also banned players from stepping outside during away games.

The Tigers also separated recently promoted Ni-gun players from the rest of the Ichi-gun players during their current road trip to Hiroshima (different Shinkansen train cars, taxi cabs to the stadium instead of riding in the team bus).

Rakuten Eagles

...Takeshi Yamasaki rounded up the players for an emergency meeting (the sseason's first) after Friday night's loss against the Nippon Ham Fighters. Yamasaki wanted to remind everyone that even though they've lost 3 in a row, they are still very much in the running for a Climax Series appearance and that it was too early to give up.

He also apparently told Teppei that even if he can't play, he should be vocal in the dugout, cheering the team on.

Seibu Lions

...The Lions suffered their league-leading 12th walk-off loss last night against the Softbank Hawks.

Softbank Hawks

...Hiroki Kokubo hit his 383rd home run of his career Friday night off Seibu Lions' starter Takayuki Kishi. That puts him out of a 17th place tie with Tatsunori Hara and Yasunori Ohshima on the All-Time HR list above .

Yokohama Bay Stars

...The Bay Stars appears to be headed towards increasing the number of scorers (advance scouts) they carry. They currently carry 5. In comparison, the Yomiuri Giants carry 8 and the Chunichi Dragons carry 12.

Yomiuri Giants

...Ken Kato was hit in the head by a pitch in last night's game against the Yakult Swallows and was rushed to he hospital and diagnosed with a bruise on the left side of his head.
