Around the NPB Horn: Darvish to join parent club today

by on Sep.08, 2009 @ 10:28 am, under NPB

Chiba Lotte Marines

...As mentioned before, the Marines will be holding a fall camp starting at the beginning of October. Tsuyoshi Nishioka, Yoshihisa Naruse, Yuki Karakawa, and a bunch of other younger players will be heading off to Satsumasendai City in Kagoshima while the veterans will be sent off to Kamoike in Kagoshima and Ishigakishima in Okinawa. And then from November 16th, the team will come together at Chiba Marine Stadium to hold full squad practices.

Hanshin Tigers

...Ikuro Katsuragi spent 90 minutes in the batting cage on his day off yesterday.

...Wei-Chu Lin will likely join the parent club today.  The team hopes that he can help provide some run support with both Craig Brazell and Kodai Sakurai out of service.

...The team is hoping that Craig Brazell can make it back within 10 days.  If not then, the Tigers still hope that he can return within a reasonable amount of time (and they don't think he'll need to return to the US). Interestingly enough, Sponichi reports that Brazell could be out at least 2-3 weeks.

...A surgery date has been set for Jeff Williams.  But that doesn't mean he'll definitely go under the knife.  It appears as though he'll keep his options open right up until the date of the surgery.

...The Tigers will likely go Yuya Ando, Minoru Iwata, and Yasutomo Kubo for their three game series against the Chunichi Dragons.

...The Tigers picked up 6 Plasmacluster Ion machines for use in the player's locker rooms and dining areas.

Hiroshima Carp

...The Carp somehow suckered the Yakult Swallows into handing out posters geared towards Hiroshima fans for their game tonight (at Jingu Stadium). The Carp have already given out 65,000 of these posters over a 2-day period when they played against the Hanshin Tigers at Mazda Stadium (9/5 - 9/6).

Carp owner Hajime Matsuda said that he really appreciated the Swallows' cooperation and that he would be more than happy to return the favor if they ever wanted to hand out umbrella's at Mazda Stadium.

Nippon Ham Fighters

...As reported earlier, Yu Darvish will be joining the Ichi-gun club today. No word yet on when he'll make a start.

Rakuten Eagles

...Katsuya Nomura will star in a few public announcement commercials about diabetes for the Tokyo area. Filming for the commercials won't take place until the end of the season.

The commercials will not air on TV but rather in trains run by JR Higashi Nihon.

...Masahiro Tanaka's next few starts might go:

9/11 vs Softbank Hawks
9/18 vs Chiba Lotte Marines
9/25 vs Seibu Lions

Softbank Hawks

...Tsuyoshi Wada (inflammation in his left elbow) will be making a start on the 9th against the Chiba Lotte Marines at Chiba Marines Stadium.  This will be his first start at Ichi-gun since since May 28th. Wada worked out with the rest of the pitching staff on Monday.

Yakult Swallows

...Sponichi jokes: about the only thing Yoshinori Sato hasn't tried for his blister problem is Hye-Chun Lee's suggestion of soaking his right hand in pickle juice.

Yokohama Bay Stars

...The Bay Stars will likely hold on to Stephen Randolph for the 2010 season.

Yomiuri Giants

...The Giants' rotation for the Yokohama Bay Stars series: Dicky Gonzalez, Shun Tono, and Seth Greisinger.

...Michihiro Ogasawara needs only 15 more hits for his 9th season of 150+ hits.

...The Giants announced that batting coach Yasuyuki Kawamoto will be heading off to Korea to take part in a training program, as a pitching coach, with the Samsung Lions.  Kawamoto will be gone from the 8th to the end of this month.
