The Umpire's Union and the NPB are meeting up today to discuss the pension system. As mentioned before, the NPB is trying to change the current private pension system over to a public system to help control costs. But that also means a drop in benefits for the umpires and that's causing the two sides to squabble over what should be done.
The Umpire's Union announced that if current talks about pension plans breaks down, the umps will go on strike on the 20th. The NPB has countered by saying that they will use replacement umps should the current umps go on strike.
