by on Sep.10, 2009 @ 1:35 am, under NPB

Chunichi Dragons

...Scouts from the Chicago Cubs were on hand to watch Wei-Ying Chen's starts on Wednesday night. Chen is a free agent at the end of the season and is eligible to sign with any team (NPB, MLB, etc) he wishes too. A number of MLB teams have expressed interest in Chen. One unidentified MLB scout from the AL said that he wouldn't be surprised if at least 15 other clubs didn't express some interest in the 24-year-old lefty.

Nippon Ham Fighters

...Kazuhito Tadano may have pitched himself back to Ni-gun. He has given up 6 earned runs in each of his last 2 starts.

Hiroshima Carp

...Akihiro Higashide recorded his 1,000th career hit on Wednesday night against the Yakult Swallows in the top of the 4th off Masanori Ishikawa.  He becomes the 254th player in NPB history to reach that milestone.

Orix Buffaloes

...The Buffaloes suffered their 72nd loss on Wednesday night and are now guaranteed a losing season.  The Buffaloes are 48-72-1 with 23 games left to play.

Seibu Lions

...Takeya Nakamura will likely be added to the active roster on the 10th.

Yakult Swallows

...The Swallows hit the 1M attendance mark on Wednesday, 2 games earlier than last season.

Yomiuri Giants

...Tetsuya Matsumoto was hit in the right hand during his at bat in the 7th and removed from the game. X-rays came back negative and Matsumoto was diagnosed with a bruised right hand.

  1. Mike

Wei-Ying Chen is having a really nice season for the Dragons (1.45 ERA, 97 hits and 122 strikeouts in 141.1 innings).
