Jingu | Attendance: 17,419 | Time: 3h 13m | Series tied, 10-10-0

This is a game the Swallows should have won, but ended up losing in the top of the 9th when Kenichi Matsuoka couldn't close the door on the Carp and gave up 3 runs.

Hiromitsu Takagi scattered 5 hits, a walk, and 3 strike outs over 7 shut-out innings. Takagi did run into a big jam in the second when he loaded the bases after retiring the first batter, Kenta Kurihara (1-for-4, R), on a fly out to center. But luck was on his side and Yoshikazu Kura (0-for-3) lined into a double play to end the inning.

The 2 relievers that followed Takagi to pitch the 8th, protected a Swallows 2-0 lead, but the third reliever, Matsuoka, could not shut the doors in the top of the 9th: Kurihara led off with a single; Scott McClain (1-for-2, 2 BB) walked; Masato Akamatsu pinch ran for McClain; Soichiro Amaya (2-for-4) struck out; and Masafumi Suenaga (2-for-4, HR, R, 3 RBI) drilled his 2nd home run of the year to give the Carp a 3-2 lead.

The Swallows scored their 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th: Norichika Aoki (1-for-3, BB, HR, R, RBI) led off with a home run that hit off the foul poll in left; Jamie D'Antona (1-for-3) single into left and was replaced by Kazuki Fukuchi (0-for-1, R); Aaron Guiel (1-for-4) fouled out to third; Shinya Miyamoto (0-for-3, BB) grounded out, runner to second; and Hiroyasu Tanaka (1-for-4, RBI) drove in the Swallows' second run with a single into center.

The thing that hurt the Swallows offense the most: 7 strike outs with a runner on second.

Kazuki Yoshimi tossed 7 strong innings and beat the Tigers, 4-2.

The Dragons got on the board with an RBI single by Tony Blanco (1-for-4, RBI) in the top of the 1st with runners on first and third and 1 out. The Tigers answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the 2nd when Tomoaki Kanemoto (1-for-4, 2B, R, RBI) led off the inning with a double, and one batter later, scored on Ikuro Katsuragi's (1-for-4) GIDP.

Motonobu Tanishige's (3-for-3, HR, 2 R, RBI) solo homer in the top of the 4th gave the Dragons a 2-1 lead. And once again, the Tigers managed to tie the game in the bottom of the 5th on a sac fly by Kanemoto with runners on first and third and 1 out.

In the top of the 7th, the Dragons took the lead, and would hold onto it this time, on an RBI single by Hirokazu Ibata (2-for-4, BB, 2B, RBI) with a runner on second and 2 out.  Masahiro Araki's (2-for-5, R, RBI) single into left with runners on first and third and 2 out gave the Dragons their 4-2 lead.

Seibu Dome | Attendance: 15,160 | time 3h 18m | Fighters lead series, 10-8-0

This is a game the Fighters would have liked to have won in order to avoid a sweep, but instead lost it due to ineffective pitching by Yoshinori Tateyama in the bottom of the 8th that led to a come-from-behind 5-4 Lions victory.

Takeya Nakamura (2-for-4, HR, R, 2 RBI) picked up right where he left off, drilling his 37th home run of the year with a runner on first and 1 out in the bottom of the 4th. The Fighters quickly answered back with 2 runs of their own in the top of the 5th: with runners on first and third and 1 out, Shinji Takashi (1-for-3, BB, 2B, RBI) drove in a run with a double into right, runners on second and third; Terrmel Sledge (0-for-1, BB, RBI) then followed with a sac fly to right that tied the game at 2.

The Fighters took the lead in the top of the 7th: with runner on first and third and 1 out, Takahashi worked out a walk that ended up being a lot more costly because the fourth ball was also a wild pitch that allowed the go ahead run to score from third and the runner at first to advance all the way to third, runners on first and third; Tomoki Hoshino relieved Fumikazu Kimura; and Sledge hit his second sac fly of the night to give the Fighters a 4-2 lead.

The Lions returned a run in the bottom of the inning on a sac fly by Shogo Akada (0-for-2, RBI) with the bases loaded and only 1 out.

In the bottom of the 8th, Tateyama struck out the first batter he faced, but then surrendered two consecutive singles to Hiroyuki Nakajima (1-for-4, R) and Nakamura to put runners on first and third (Yutaro Ohsaki pinch ran for Nakamura). Tateyama then gave up a bases clearing double to Taketoshi Goto (1-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) that gave the Lions a 5-4 lead.

Note: if RF Toshimasa Konta seemed to lose the ball and tried to recover at the last minute, causing him to slip -- had he been able to track the ball properly, he may have been able to catch it; there was also a play at the plate but Ohsaki slid into home head first and made it just in time.

Hironori Matsunaga tossed a perfect 9th to pick up his first save of his career.

Chiba Marine | Attendance: 14,794 | Time: 3h 50m | Marines lead series, 11-9-1

Softbank used four pitchers and all four were tagged for runs as the Marines beat the Hawks, 8-3.

The Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st on an RBI single by Jose Ortiz (1-for-4, RBI) with a runner on second and 1 out.  Hidenori Tanoue's (1-for-4, HR, R, 2 RBI) 23rd home run of the year in the top of the 2nd with Yuya Hasegawa (3-for-4, R) on first, gave the Hawks a 3-0 lead.

On the mound for Softbank, Shota Ohba struggled, giving up 4 walks and 2 hits over the first 3 innings; he also threw 73 pitches. All of that eventually caught up to Ohba in the bottom of the 4th: Kazuya Fukuura (2-for-3, HBP, BB, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Toshiaki Imae (1-for-5, 2B, R) led off the inning with doubles and put runners on second and third; Daisuke Hayakawa (2-for-5, 2B, R, 2 RBI) drove in Fukuura with a single into right, runners on first and third; a wild pitch advance Hayakawa to second; and Tsuyoshi Nishioka (2-for-3, BB, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI) drove in Imae with a ground out to second.  Ohba retired the next two batters, but with his pitch at 102, the 4th inning ended up being his last.

Down 3-2 in the bottom of the 5th, the Marines managed to tie the game on an RBI single by Fukuura with runners on first and second and 1 out.  Tasuku Hashimoto's (1-for-1, RBI) pinch hit RBI single in the bottom of the 6th with runners on first and second with 2 outs gave the Marines a 4-3 lead.

An RBI double by Hayakawa with a runner on second and 2 out, followed by Nishioka's 12th home run of the year gave the Marines a healthy 7-3 lead in the bottom 7th.  The Marine scored their last run of the game in the bottom of the 8th when Fukuura was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and 1 out.

After Tanoue hit his home run in the top of the 2nd, not one Hawks' base runner made it passed first, despite having at least one base runner (4 hits and an HBP)  in 5 of the 7 final innings of the game.

After being held to just one double over the first three innings of the game, the Eagles finally answered back with 2 runs of their own in the top of the 4th: with runners on first and third and 1 out, a throwing error by Masahiro Abe (2B) on a ground out to second by Fernando Seguignol (1-for-4, 2 RBI) allowed Seguignol to reach first and allowed the runner on third to score, runners on first and second; Daisuke Kusano (2-for-4, 2B , RBI) followed with a single into left that tied the game at 2.
