Masahiro Yamamoto tossed 6 solid innings and picked up his 1st win of the year by beating the Swallows, 3-1.

Yuki Tanaka had a rough night and gave up 5 hits and 6 walks over 6 innings.  2 of the 6 walks he gave up came in the first and helped the Dragons score their first run of the game: after Hirokazu Ibata (2-for-4, 2 R) led off with a single and was bunted over to second, Tanaka walked two straight batters to load the bases and then surrendered a run on a sac fly by Kazuhiro Wada (1-for-1, 2 BB, RBI).

Tanaka gave up 2 more runs in the bottom of the 5th: Ibata led off with a single; Masahiro Araki (1-for-3, R) hit a single into left that put runners on first and third, then stole second to put runners on second and third; Masahiko Morino (1-for-2, BB, RBI) hit a sac fly, runner on second; Tony Blanco (0-for-3, BB) grounded out to short, runner to third; Wada walked to put runners on the corners; and Kazuki Inoue (1-for-3, RBI) hit a single into left to score Araki from third.

The Swallows scored their lone run in the top of the 6th on Keizo Kawashima's (1-for-4, HR, R, RBI) 11th home run of the year.

Hitoki Iwase entered the game in the top of the 9th and gave up back-to-back-singles to Norichika Aoki (1-for-3, BB) and Jamie D'Antona (2-for-4) before retiring the side in order.

Koshien | Attendance: 44,046 | Time: 2h 33m | Tigers lead series, 13-6-0

Two solo homers were all the Tigers needed in order to beat the Yokohama Bay Stars, 2-1.

Ryan Glynn's only problem on Friday night was giving up 2 solo homers in the bottom of the 2nd:  a lead-off home run to Tomoaki Kanemoto (2-for-4, HR, R, RBI) and a 2-out solo home run to Ryo Asai (1-for-3, HR, R, RBI).  Including those two hits, Glynn scattered only 4 hits over 6 innings of work and walked 1.  He had 1-2-3 innings in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th innings and aside from the 2nd, allowed only 1 batter to step on 2nd.

On the other side of the diamond, Atsushi Noumi gave up 5 hits (including 4 doubles) and 2 walk over 7 innings of work and held the Bay Stars to just 1 run.  His "problem" inning was in the top of the 6th when he gave up two consecutive doubles after retiring the first two batters of the inning: a 2-out double to Toshihisa Nishi (1-for-4,  R) and an RBI double to Seiichi Uchikawa (2-for-4, 2 2B, RBI).

Kyuji Fujikawa tossed a perfect 9th for his 20th save of the year.

Sapporo Dome | Attendance: 29,449 | Time: 3h 12m | Fighters lead series, 16-5-0

If not for 2 solo home runs, perhaps Shugo Fujii wins his 7th game, but as it stands the Marines beat the Fighters, 3-2.

After retiring the first 6 batters in a row and holding the Marines scoreless over the first 3 innings, Fujii gave up a lead-off home run to Saburo (1-for-4, HR, R, RBI) in the top of the 4th.  The Fighters quickly answered back with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning: Atsunori Inaba (1-for-3, BB, R) led off single into center; Shinji Takahashi (1-for-4, 2B, R, RBI) drove in Inaba with a double; Terrmel Sledge (3-for-4) singled into right, runners on first and third; and Takahashi scored on Eiichi Koyano's (0-for-3, BB) GIDP.

The Marines didn't waste any time and quickly tied the game in the top of the 5th on a lead-off home run by Ryusuke Minami (1-for-4, HR, R, RBI). And it was an RBI single by Kazuya Fukuura (1-for-4, RBI) in the top of the 6th with runners on first and second and 2 out that gave the Marines their 3-2 lead.

The Fighters had a number of chances to score some runs after the 4th, but simply could not deliver the timely hit: 0-for-7 (including 3 strike outs) with a runner on second.

Brian Sikorski pitched the bottom of the 9th for the Marines and surrendered a lead-off single before retiring the next three batters in order.

After being down 3-1 after 8, the Eagles somehow pulled 6 runs out of the hat in the top of the 9th to beat the Hawks, 7-4.

Softbank took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st on an RBI double by Hiroki Kokubo (2-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI) with a runner on second and 2 out.  The Eagles answered back with a run of their own in the top of the 3rd: an RBI double by Takeshi Yamasaki (2-for-5, 2B, RBI) with runners on first and second and 2 out.

The Hawks took the lead in the bottom of the 6th when Yuichi Honda (2-for-5, 3B, 2 R) led off the inning with a triple and scored 2 outs later on a single by Kokubo. A pinch-hit RBI double, that scored Yuya Hasegawa (3-for-4, 3B, 2 R) from second with 1 out, by Hitoshi Tamura in the bottom of the 7th gave the Hawks a 3-1 lead.

And then came the top of the 9th: Takahiro Mahara entered the game to shut the doors on the Eagles, but he quickly gave up consecutive singles to Fernando Seguignol (1-for-4; replaced by pinch runner Akihisa Makida) and Daisuke Kusano (1-for-4) that put runners on first and second; a sac bunt by pinch hitter Makoto Kosaka resulted in an error that allowed Makida to score from second and allowed Kosaka to reach first safely; Masato Nakamura's (0-for-4, R)  sac bunt went right back to Mahara and he was able throw out the lead runner at third; pinch hitter Kenshi struck out for the second out of the inning; Naoto Watanabe (2-for-4, R, RBI) hit a single into left that scored Kosaka from second and tied the game at 3; Yosuke Takasu (2-for-5, 2B, R) hit a single into right to load the bases; and Teppei launch his 9th home run of the year to give the Eagles a 7-3 lead. None of the 6 runs that scored in the inning were earned.

The Eagles turned to Kazuo Fukumori to close out the game in the bottom of the 9th.  But he gave up a lead-off triple to Hasegawa and allowed him to score on a wild pitch.  A single and an out later, Kanehisa Arime relieved Fukumori and struck out the remaining two batters for his 3rd save of the year.
