Tokyo Dome | Attendance: 40,252 | Time: 3h 42m | Series tied, 10-10-2

The Tigers managed to beat the Giants in  11, 5-3.

A 2-out RBI double by Michihiro Ogasawara (1-for-4, BB, 2B, RBI) with a runner on second gave the Giants a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd.  The Tigers answered back with a run of their own to briefly tie the game at 1 in the top of the 4th on an RBI single by Takahiro Arai (2-for-5, R, RBI) with runners on first and second and 2 out.

The Giants regained the lead in the bottom of the inning on a sac fly by Shinnosuke Abe (1-for-3, BB, HR, R, 2 RBI) with runners on first and third and no out.

In the top of the 6th, a 1-out solo home run by Takashi Toritani (3-for-5, 2B, HR, 2R, RBI) tied the game at 2.  Two singles and a ground out later, with runners on second and third, Kentaro Sekimoto (2-for-5, RBI) drove in the go-ahead run with a single into center; the inning ended with the runner on second getting thrown out at home.  Abe's 27th home run of the year in the bottom of the inning tied the game at 3.

With the game still tied at 3 after 10 full innings of play, the Tigers finally managed to break-through in the 11th: Arai reached on a fielding error by Hayato Sakamoto (SS) and two outs later, scored on Akihiro Yano's (3-for-5, HR, R, 2 RBI) 2nd home run of the year.

With Kyuji Fujikawa still on the mound for Tigers, he entered the game in the bottom of the 10th, the Giants almost managed to stage a comeback as Yoshiyuki Kamei (1-for-4, BB, R) and Yoshitomo Tani (2-for-5) started off the inning with singles.  But the rally, and the game, came to a quick end as Abe lined into a double play and pinch hitter Shigeyuki Furuki struck out.

Yokohama | Attendance: 8,438 | Time: 3h 30m | Bay Stars lead series, 13-4-0

The Swallows found yet another way to lose a game as the Bay Stars pull off a come-from-behind 6-5 victory.

Yakult took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st on an RBI single by Norichika Aoki (1-for-5, R, RBI) with a runner on second and 1 out.  A stolen base later, Aaron Guiel (0-for-3, 2 BB) walked to put runners on first and second; but neither Shinya Miyamoto (3-for-4, 2 2B, R, RBI) nor Hiroyasu Tanaka (1-for-4, 2B, RBI) could come up with a timely hit.

The Swallows almost ruined another scoring opportunity in the top of the second when Yoshiyuki Noguchi (1-for-4, 2B, R) led off the inning with a double and the next two batters went down in order.  But Kazuki Fukuchi (1-for-5, R, RBI) singled Noguchi home; stole second; and scored on Keizo Kawashima's (2-for-5, 2B, R, RBI) double into right to give the Swallows a 3-0 lead.

The Bay Stars returned a run in the bottom of the second: with runners on second and third and 1 out, Takehiro Ishikawa (0-for-4, RBI) drove in a run with a grounder to short.

A fielding error by Noriharu Yamazaki (2B) in the top of the second allowed Aoki to reach second with 1 out.  A strike out later, the Swallows recorded two back-to-back doubles by Miyamoto and Tanaka to take a 5-1 lead.

In the bottom of the 6th, Tastuhiko Kinjo (3-for-4, 2 2B, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI) led off the inning with his 7th home run of the year.  And in the bottom of the 7th, Masanori Ishikawa suffered a major breakdown after getting 2 out: Yuki Yoshimura (1-for-4, R) led off with a single; Ishikawa grounded out to the pitcher, runner to second; pinch hitter Yoshiyuki Kuwahara grounded out to third; Toshio Saito (2-for-3, R, RBI) singled into center and drove in Yoshimura; Kinjo doubled home Saito; Yamazaki's (1-for-4) single put runners on first and third; Masahiro Yoshikawa relieved Ishikawa; Seiichi Uchikawa (1-for-4, IBB, RBI) tied the game with a single into center, runners on first and third; Hye-Chun Lee relieved Yoshikawa; Dan Johnson (2-for-3, 2 BB, R, RBI) walked to load the bases; and Takahiro Saeki (0-for-3) grounded out to second.

The Swallows turned to an ineffective Kenichi Matsuoka in the bottom of the 9th: T. Saito picked up a bunt single; Takayuki Kajitani came in to run for Saito and was bunted over to second; pinch hitter Tatsuya Shimozono singled to put runners on first and third; Uchikawa was intentionally walked; and Johnson won the game with a single into right.

Mazda Stadium | Attendance: 21,230 | Time: 3h 59 | Dragons lead series, 15-7-0

A fielding error and a home run ended Wei-Ying Chen's night but the Dragons still managed to beat the Carp, 5-3.

Hidenori's (1-for-5, RBI) single into right, after a walk and a fielding error by Kenta Kurihara (1B) that put runners on first and third and no out, gave the Dragons a 1-0 lead in the top of the second.  A single by Masahiko Morino (1-for-4, BB, 2 RBI) with the bases loaded in the top of the 5th made it 3-0.

But a throwing error by Hirokazu Ibata (SS) that allowed lead-off hitter Kenta Kurihara (0-for-4, R) to reach first in the bottom of the 7th, followed by a Scott McClain (1-for-4, R) single into left, put runners on first and second and no out for the Carp.  Jun Hirose (1-for-4) fouled out to first for the first out of the inning, but Soichiro Amaya (1-for-4, HR, R, 3 RBI) nailed his 5th home run of the year to tie the game at 3.

The game went into extra innings and Kazuhiro Wada (1-for-4, BB, HR, R, 2RBI) struck the decisive blow in the top of the 10th: with 2 outs, Tony Blanco (2-for-5, 2B, R) hit a single into right and scored on Wada's 27th home run of the season.

Hitoki Iwase entered the game in the bottom of the 11th and gave up a 1-out double to Akihiro Higashide (1-for-3, 2 BB, 2B) before retiring the final two batters in order for his 40th save of the year.

Chen actually did pretty well up until the bottom of the 7th: through 6 innings of work, he scattered 3 hits and recorded three 1-2-3 innings.  And if not for the error to start the 7th, Chen may have been able to finish out the inning and pick up his 9th win of year.

The Eagles were outhit and out-pitched in their 5-2 loss against the Fighters.

The Eagles manufactured a run in the top of the 1st: Naoto Watanabe (0-for-3, BB, R) led off with a walk; stole second, advanced to third on a ground out; and scored on a sac fly by Teppei (1-for-3, RBI).  Three back-to-back singles into the top of the second loaded the bases and a ground out to second by Daisuke Kusano (0-for-3,  RBI) gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

But after a single by Teppei in the top of the 3rd, the hits stopped coming: Masaru Takeda, Yoshinori Tateyama,  and Hisashi Takeda combined to retire 20 straight batters.

Hisashi Iwakuma wasn't at his best, but he still managed to keep the Fighters off the board until he surrendered a 2-out solo homer to Yoshio Itoi (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI)  in the bottom of the 4th.  But that wasn't the worst part of his outing.

In the bottom of the 6th, after getting Shinji Takahashi (1-for-4) to ground out to second to start the inning: Terrmel Sledge (1-for-2, 2 BB, HR, R, RBI) hit his 21st home run of the year to tie the game at 2; Eichi Koyano (1-for-3, HBP, R) and Itoi singled to put runners on first and second; Shinya Tsuruoka (0-for-3, BB, R) walked to load the bases; Makoto Kaneko (1-for-4, 2 RBI) drove in two with a single into left and gave the Fighters a 4-2 lead, runners on first and second; Kensuke Tanaka (2-for-5, 2B, RBI) chased home another run with a double, runners on second and third; and Hichori Morimoto (0-for-3, BB) attempted a squeeze bunt but missed, leaving the runner on third out to dry, and then struck out to end the inning.

Chiba Marine | Attendance: 13,227 | Time: 3h 34m | Marines lead series, 10-9-0

Tsuyoshi Nishioka (0-for-5) and Tasuku Hashimoto (0-for-4) combined to go 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position as the Lions beat the Mariners, 3-2.

Lotte wasted a solid starting effort by Shunsuke Watanabe: he recorded five 1-2-3 innings and retired 10 straight at one point.  He did run into some problems, but not nearly as many as the Marines offense did: despite getting at least one runner on base in every inning except the 3rd, the Marines could only score 2 runs.

With 1 out in the bottom of the first, Keisuke Hayasaka (1-for-5, R) hit an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error by Hiroyuki Nakajima (SS); Tadahito Iguchi (2-for-4, BB, 2 RBI) followed with a single into center that gave the Marines a 1-0 lead.

The Lions quickly answered back in the top of the 2nd on an RBI single by Ginjiro (1-for-2, RBI) with runners on first and second and 2 out.  But a lead-off triple by Katsuya Kakunaka (1-for-3, BB, 3B, R) in the bottom of the 5th, followed 2 outs later by a single into left by Iguchi, gave the Marines a 2-1 lead.

But Seibu managed  to once again tie the game: in the top of the 7th, Yoshihito Ishii (1-for-3, 2B, R) led off the inning with a double and scored two outs later on pinch hitter Tatsuyuki Uemoto's (1-for-1, 2 RBI) single into center.

The deciding run scored in the top of the 9th, with Watanabe still on the mound for the Mariners: Takeya Nakamura (1-for-4, 2B) led off with a double and was replaced by pinch runner Shogo Akada; pinch hitter Tomoaki Sato hit a sac bunt, runner to third; G.G. Sato (0-for-2, IBB, BB) was intentionally walked; Tadahiro Ogino relieved Watanabe; Takuya Hara (1-for-3, HBP) was hit by a pitch to load the bases; Uemoto hit a sac fly to drive in the go-ahead run; and Yutaro Ohsaki (0-for-4) struck out to end the inning.

Seibu turned to Jonah Bayliss to close out the game in the bottom of the 9th.  But after giving up a 1-out walk to Iguchi, the Lions quick dipped turned to the pen and brought in Tomoki Hoshino, who promptly struck out Shoitsu Ohmatsu (2-for-5, 2B).  And as luck would have it, the game ended shortly thereafter with Iguchi getting caught trying to steal second on the strike out.
