Tokyo Dome | Attendance: 41,534 | Time: 3h 29m | Tigers lead series, 11-10-2

The Tigers were the victors of a seesaw 7-6 game against the Giants.

Ryo Asai (4-for-5, 3B, HR,2 R, 2 RBI) led off the game with his 3rd home run of the year.  A single, a fielding error by Alex Ramirez (LF), and a ground out later, with a runner on third, Tomoaki Kanemoto (1-for-3, BB, RBI)  gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead with a sac fly into center.

The Giants quickly answered back with 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st: Hayato Sakamoto (3-for-5, R) led off with single; Tetsuya Matsumoto (0-for-4) struck out; Michihiro Ogasawara (0-for-3, BB, R) walked to put runners on first and second; Alex Ramirez (1-for-3, HBP, 2B, R, RBI) drove in a run with a double, runners on second and third; Yoshiyuki Kamei (0-for-4) grounded out to first; Yoshitomo Tani (1-for-3, BB, HR, 2 R, RBI) walked to load the bases; Shinnosuke Abe (1-for-3, HBP, R, 2 RBI) gave the Giants a 3-2 lead with a 2-run single into center; and Daisuke Nakai (1-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI) grounded out to second to end the inning.

Nakai's 2-run double in the bottom of the 3rd gave the Giants a 5-2 lead.  But the Tigers tied the game in the top of the 5th on a 3-run home run by Takashi Toritani (2-for-4, HBP, 2 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI).  The Giants regained the lead in the bottom of the inning on Tani's 7th home run of the year.

In the top of the 6th, the Tigers tied the game on an RBI triple by Asai.  And in the top of the 7th, they took a 7-6 lead when Toritani led off the inning with his second home run of the game.

After Tani's home run in the bottom of the 5th, the Tigers' pitching staff retired 18 straight batters, including 10 on strike outs.

Kyuji Fujikawa entered the game in the bottom of the 9 and struck out the side for his 22nd save of the year.

The Giants had a quick hook for Tono tonight.  And Hara wasn't all too happy with him giving up 2 runs in the first inning.

Yokohama | Attendance: 10,160 | Time: 3h 21m | Bay Stars lead series, 13-5-0

The Swallows finally managed to break out of their funk and beat the Bay Stars, 6-2.

Tatsuya Shimozono (2-for-3, BB, R) led off the 1st with a single into left.  A sac bunt and a fly out later, he came around to score on Dan Johnson's (1-for-2, 2 BB, R, RBI) single into right.  Takahiro Saeki (1-for-3, 2B, BB, RBI) followed with a double that scored Johnson all the way from first and just like that, the Bay Stars had a 2-0 lead.

But that would be it for the Bay Stars as Hiromitsu Takagi and four other relievers worked into and out of trouble over the next 8 innings to keep Yokohama off the boards.

On offense, the Swallows sputtered through the first 4 innings.  But they finally got things going in the top of the 5th: after Yoshiyuki Noguchi (0-for-2) grounded out to second to open the inning, Ryohei Kawamoto (1-for-4, R) hit a single into left and was bunted over to second by Takagi (0-for-1); Kazuki Fukuchi (3-for-5, 2 R, RBI) drove in Kawamoto with a single into center and advanced to second on the throw; Keizo Kawashima (2-for-4, R, RBI) tied the game with a single into right and advanced to second on the throw; and Norichika Aoki (2-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI) ended the inning by flying out to left.

Yakult took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 6th on a pinch hit sac fly by Jamie D'Antona with runners on first and third and 1 out.  In the top of the 7th, with runners on first and second and 1 out, Aoki cleared the bases with a double and gave the Swallows a 5-2 lead.

The Swallows tacked on one more run in the top of the 9th when Aoki drove K. Kawashima home from third on a single into center.

Chang-Yong Lim tossed a perfect 9th to pick up his 25th save of the year.

A 1-out single by Naoto Watanabe (2-for-5), followed by a walk to Teppei (0-for-3, 2 BB, 2 R) and a wild pitch, put runners on second and third.  Takeshi Yamasaki (2-for-4, RBI) followed with a sac fly to center that gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st.  But the Fighters quickly matched the Eagles with a run in the bottom of the inning: with a runner on third and 1 out, Atsunori Inaba (3-for-5, RBI) tied the game with a single into center.

The Fighters took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 4th after Eiichi Koyano (1-for-5, 3B, R) hit a 1-out triple and came around to score on a wild pitch.  The lead wouldn't last very long though as the Eagles tied the game in the top of the 5th on an RBI single by Masato Nakamura (2-for-5, RBI) with runners on second and third and 2 out (the inning ended with the trail runner getting thrown out at home).

In the top of the 6th, the Eagles put up 4 runs to take a 6-2 lead: N. Watanabe walked and advanced to second on a balk; Teppei walked to put runners on first and second; T. Yamasaki fouled out to right, runners on first and third;  Masanori Hayashi relieved Brian Sweeney; Kenshi (1-for-3, 2 RBI) hit a sac fly that gave the Eagle a 3-2 lead, runner on first; Daisuke Kusano (2-for-5, 2 R) hit an infield single and the runners advanced to second and third on a throwing error by Makoto Kaneko (SS); Todd Linden (1-for-3, IBB, BB, R, RBI) made it 4-2 with a single into left, runners on first and third; Yosuke Takasu hit a pinch hit double that cleared the bases, Eagles up 6-2; Takayuki Kanamori relieved Hayashi; and Jin Nakatani (0-for-3) bounced back to the pitcher for the final out of the inning.

Kenshi's RBI single in the top of the 7th with runners on first and third and 2 out gave the Eagles a 7-2 lead.  The Fighters scored their third and final run in the bottom of the 7th on a  sac fly by Shinji Takahashi (2-for-4, RBI) with the bases loaded and no out in the bottom of the 7th.

The Fighters did put up a threat in the bottom of the 9th, getting runners on first and third and only 1 out, but Shinichiro Koyama bore down and retired the next two batters in order to end the game.

Chiba Marine | Attendance: 14,404 | Time: 2h 53m | Marines lead series, 11-9-0

A wild pitch in the bottom of the 9th spelled disaster for Ohnuma as the Marines beat the Lions, 3-2.

Ming-Chieh Hsu pitched into the 7th but was most effective over the first 6 innings of the game: he scattered just 3 hits and allowed 1 run to score over the first 6 innings of the game, but could not record an out in the 7th while giving up a run on 3 hits (he end the 6th with 91 pitches and likely was at the end of his rope when he returned to the mound in the 7th).

Hsu did also got some help from the Marines in the bottom of the 1st: Tsuyoshi Nishioka (2-for-4, RBI) led off the game with a single and was caught stealing; Keisuke Hayasaka (0-for-3, BB) walked and was caught stealing; Kazuya Fukuura (1-for-3, BB)) walked; and Tadahito Iguchi (1-for-2, HBP, BB, R) flied out to center.

The Marines took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd on an RBI single by Nishioka after Hisao Heiuchi (0-for-1, BB, R) opened the inning with a walk and was bunted over to second.

In the top of the 5th, the Lions answered back with 2 runs of their own to take a 2-1 lead: Toru Hosokawa (0-for-3) led off the inning with a strike out; Shogo Akada (0-for-2, BB, R) walked; Yasuyuki Kataoka (1-for-5, R) hit a single; Takumi Kuriyama (1-for-4) grounded out to second, runners on second and third; Hiroyuki Nakajima (1-for-4, 2 RBI) cleared the bases with a single into right; and Takeya Nakamura (1-for-4) flied out to center to end the inning.

Tomoya Satozaki (1-for-3, IBB, RBI) followed an Iguchi single and a Shoitsu Ohmatsu (1-for-3, 2B) double with a run scoring infield single that tied the game at 2 in the bottom of the 7th.

Koji Ohnuma entered the game in the bottom of the 9th for the Lions and promptly walked Fukuura (replaced by pinch runner Daisuke Hayakawa) and hit Iguchi.  A bunt by Ohmatsu put runners on second and third and the Lions opted to intentionally walk Satozaki to load the bases.  But that plan backfired when Ohnuma threw a wild pitch that allowed the go-ahead ahead run to score.

A quick note on Wada: on the highlight reels I've seen, he looks completely lost out on the mound.  And the pitches he gave up the home runs on were all up in the zone and out over the plate. It might not be a bad idea to send him down to Ni-gun for a couple of starts to work out his kinks.
