Around the NPB Horn: Darvish on track for start on 27th

by on Sep.22, 2009 @ 2:10 pm, under NPB

Chiba Lotte Marines

...Satoru Komiyama could turn to teaching for his life after baseball.  Komiyama completed a master's course at Waseda University School of Sports Sciences in 2007 and might return to the school to become an instructor.

...It appears as though the Marines will not be giving contract extensions to:

Benny Agbayani (OF)
Gary Burnham Jr. (INF)
Chase Lambin (INF)

It's also possible that the team will not bring back Brian Sikorski (P) as well.  Someone close to the team said that the Marines would like to find a foreigner that can provide the team with 25-30 home runs.

Other personnel likely to be let go: Frank Ramppen (batting coach) and Lenn Sakata (Ni-gun manager).

Hanshin Tigers

...Craig Brazell is 0-for-6 with 4 strike outs since his return to the active roster.  Was he brought back to quickly?

Nippon Ham Fighters

...Yu Darvish is still on track to make his next start on the 27th against the Softbank Hawks.

Seibu Lions

...Hideaki Wakui has made 25 starts this season and completed 10 of them.  He has also tossed 198.2 innings, good for second most in his career.

"Ten complete games?  Nothing special about that.  Starting pitchers should want to stay on the mound until the end and walk-off the field while giving his team mates hi-fives.  I think it's something every starter wants to do."

Softbank Hawks

...Tadashi Settsu extended his consecutive scoreless  appearances streak to 18 games with his 2-inning appearance in Monday's game against the Chiba Lotte Marines.

Rakuten Eagles

...Fernando Seguignol was supposed make an appearance during the post-game hero interview but had already stripped down to his underwear in the locker room and couldn't make it.  Earlier in the game, Seguignol stole his first base since August 31s, 2005 (3rd in his NPB career).

"I wanted to try and open things up.  A sign?  No, it was all my doing.  [The pitcher] had a big motion.  If I'm on first, I know two  singles probably won't get me home."

According to someone from the Eagles, Shogo Yamamoto was timed at 1.7 - 1.8 second on his delivery, much slower than most pitchers that usually speed up their motions to prevent runners from getting good jumps (about 1.2 seconds).

Yokohama Bay Stars

...Shuichi Murata was added to the active roster on Monday and made his first start at Ichi-gun since August 7th.  Murata went 1-for-4 with2 strike outs and a run scored.

Yomiuri Giants

...The Giants have a CL Champions t-shirt design ready and will be printing some up as soon as they move closer to clinching the top spot in the CL.  The design is apparently similar to last season's design.

Game tickets have also been selling extremely well.  Pre-order tickets for their game against the Dragons on the 23rd are in extremely limited supply.  Tickets shops are selling pair tickets to the game on the 23rd for as much as 20,000 to 30,000yen.

The 23rd marks the earliest date the Giants can clinch the CL.

...Yoshitomo Tani is batting .478 with 5 HRs and 17 RBIs in 15 games in the month of September so far.

...Michihiro Ogasawara has now collected at least 150 hits in 4 consecutive seasons (9 overall in his career).
