by on Sep.23, 2009 @ 10:35 pm, under NPB

MLB.com is reporting that Bobby Valentine is on the verge of signing a multi-year deal with ESPN.

Former Rangers and Mets manager Bobby Valentine, on the verge of completing his final season with the Chiba Lotte Marines of Japan's Pacific League, is close to signing a multiyear deal to return to television with ESPN.

The article also mentions the NY Daily News as it's source.  So here's that article:

Television industry and baseball sources say Valentine, completing his final season as manager of the Chiba Lotte Marines of Japan's Pacific League, is on the verge of signing a lucrative multi-year deal with ESPN.

Valentine, no doubt carrying his bag of disguises, will likely make his debut at the network working in its "Baseball Tonight" studio during next month's playoffs.

"It's a done deal," one source said. "And it should be announced soon."

So, is there anyone from the peanut gallery that perhaps information that points to something different?

I caught the end of the Marines/Hawks game this afternoon, there was a nice display from the Lotte supporters for Bobby. Many of the fans, Bobby included, were in tears. He definitely will be missed around those parts.

Inside sources say that Bobby will be doing a spot for ESPN on the post season only. Anything beyond that is still in the air, including a return to Japan.

I know his chances of coming to Yokohama are slim to none, but I’m still hopeful.
