Chiba Lotte Marines

...The Marines announced on Saturday that five Marines were diagnosed with the swine flu:

Kawasaki, Yusuke P
Uematsu, Masatomo P
Aomatsu, Keiyo C
Sato, Kenji OF
Nishino, Yuji P (Ikusei)

All five are said to be in the recovery stages.

Hanshin Tigers

...The Tigers committed their 80th error on Saturday.  That's 18 more than the 62 they committed last season.

...Masashi Sajikihara extended his NPB record consecutive games without a loss to 116 games.

...Tsuyoshi Shimoyanagi was removed from the active roster because he likely wasn't going to get any more starts over the next 10 days.  Shimoyanagi's bid for 5 consecutive seasons with double-digit wins likely comes to an end (he's currently 8-8 this season).

Orix Buffaloes

...The Buffaloes might have the second best team batting average in the Pacific League, but they also have the worst record in the PL.  Further evidence that hitting doesn't beat pitching?

Rakuten Eagles

...The last time a Pacific League team's 7, 8, and 9 batters all hit home runs in a game was in 2003 with Daiei.

It was the first time in Eagles' history for 3 players to go deep in consecutive at bats (three home runs in one inning, consecutive or not, was also a club first).  It was also the first time since 8/3/2008 that the team hit 4 home runs in one game (5th time overall).

Yomiuri Giants

...The Giants announced that they will be holding a mini camp at their Miyazaki training grounds prior to the Climax Series.  The team will hold a practice session on 10/16, and have practice games on the 17th (Fall Ikusei League Hiroshima) and 18th (Softbank).
