Tokyo Dome | Attendance: 43,433 | Time: 2h 49m | Giants lead series, 12-6-3

The Giants pulled out a 1-0 victory over the Carp on a walk-off single by Hayato Sakamoto (2-for-5, RBI) in the bottom of the 10th.

Yuya Kubo was nearly unhittable over 8 innings of work.  The one hit he gave up was a single to Scott McClain (1-for-4) in the top of the 2nd.  After that single, Kubo retired 12 straight before walking Kenta Maeda (0-for-1, 2 BB) in the top of the 6th.  He then retired another 6 in row before hitting Jun Hirose (0-for-2, HBP) to start the 8th inning.  A fly out and a wild pitch later, Kubo once against walked Maeda and put 2 runners on base for the first time in the game.  But he promptly wiggled out of the jam with two ground outs.

The Yomiuri bullpen also did it's job by holding the Carp to just 1 hit over the remaining 2 innings of the game.

On the other side of the diamond, Maeda also pitched himself a nice game, scattering just 3 hits over 8 innings of work.  And after giving up a 2-out double to Michihiro Ogaswara (1-for-3, BB, 2B) in the bottom of the 1st, he retired 10 straight before walking Yoshiyuki Kamei (0-for-3, BB) to lead off the 5th.

In the bottom of the 6th, Maeda put 2 runners on base after retiring the first two batters in order.  Just like Kubo, he got out of the inning without any damage.

In the end, it was the bullpen that lost the game for the Carp.

Ryuji Yokoyama entered the game in the bottom of the 10th and promptly gave up a single to Shinnosuke Abe (1-for-4).  Takahiro Suzuki entered the game as a pinch runner for Abe and advanced to second on a ground out by Ryota Wakiya (0-for-4).  Yokoyama managed to strike out Kazunari Tsuruoka (0-for-4), but walked pinch hitter Yoshitomo Tani to put runners on first and second.  That set the table for Sakamoto's walk-off single into left that scored Suzuki from second and gave the Giants a 1-0 victory over the Carp.

Jingu | Attendance: 17,676  | Time: 2h 41m | Bay Stars lead series, 13-8-0

The Swallows almost gave up the game in the top of the 9th, but held on to beat the Bay Stars, 5-4.

Three consecutive hits in the bottom of the 3rd gave the Swallows a 2-0 lead: Norichika Aoki (2-for-4, R) led off the inning with a single, Kazuhiro Hatakeyama (3-for-4, 2B, HR, 2 R, RBI) followed with a double that put runners on second and third; and Aaron Guiel (2-for-4, R, 2 RBI) cleared the bases with a single into center.

The Bay Stars finally managed to return a run in the top of the 6th on an RBI triple by Kazuya Fujita (1-for-4, 3B, RBI) with a runner on second and two out.

Prior to the 6th, Kyohei Muranaka retired 14 straight before walking Yuki Yoshimura (0-for-3, BB) in the 5th with 2 out.  But he emphatically ended the inning by striking out Noriharu Yamazaki (0-for-2) for his 6th strike out of the game.

In the bottom of the 7th, the Swallows tacked on 2 more runs:

Guiel led off with a single and advanced to second on a sac bunt.  The Bay Stars brought in Hiroki Sanada  to relieve Yuji Yoshimi.  Ryoji Aikawa (1-for-4, 2B, R, RBI) promptly hit an RBI double that gave the Swallows a 3-1 lead. Muranaka (0-for-3) flied out to center.  Kazuki Fukuchi (0-for-3) walked to put runners on first and second.  Hiroyasu Tanaka (0-for-3, BB) hit a grounder to short but Kazuya Fujita (SS) threw the ball into the camera well behind first and allowed Aikawa to score and put runners on second and third.  Shinya Miyamoto (0-for-4) struck out to end the inning.

Hatakeyama's solo homer in the bottom of the 8th with 1 out gave the Swallows a very important 5th run of the game.

Perhaps a little tired, Muranaka gave up a lead-off single to Tatsuhiko Kinjo (1-for-4).  A force out later, with a runner on first, Seiichi Uchikawa (1-for-4, HR, R, 2 RBI) nailed his 16th home run of the year.  The Swallows turned to Chang-Yong Lim for the final 2 outs of the game, but he promptly gave up a home run to Shuichi Murata (1-for-4, HR, R, RBI) and suddenly the Bay Stars were only 1 run away from tying the game.  But Lim bore down and struck out Takahiro Saeki (0-for-4) and induced a ground ball out of Yuki Yoshimura (0-for-3, BB) for the final out of the inning.
