...watch the Rakuten Eagles vs. the Softbank Hawks.
It should be a good game. Masahiro Tanaka will face off against Toshiya Sugiuchi. Another win for the Eagles will knock their Magic Number to 1. A loss will allow the Hawks to regain control of second.
My only concern: over their last 8 games, the so-called aces of the staff (Tanaka and Iwakuma) are 0-1 in 3 starts. The rest of the starters are 3-0 in 5 games. Still, I'm hopeful Tanaka will come around tonight, even though he hasn't been especially good his last few starts (16 ER in 28 IP in 4 games). He really needs to stay away from giving up the long ball -- if he can keep the Hawks in the part tonight, I think the Eagles will be just fine.
A list of home runs he has given up over his last 4 starts:
9/25 (vs Lions): 2-run HR vs Nakamura; 2-run HR vs G.G. Sato
9/18 (vs Marines): 2-run HR vs Fukuura
9/11 (vs Hawks): none
9/3 (vs Lions): 2-run HR vs G.G. Sato; solo HR vs Nakajima
As for the other two games on the schedule... The Swallows game is important as a win will put them into a tie for third place with the Hanshin Tigers. If they want a serious chance at the Climax Series, they'll need to win tonight. And with Shoei Tateyama on the mound, they should have a decent enough chance.
The other game pits the first (Yomiuti Giants) and last place (Yokohama Bay Stars) teams of the Central League and really holds no significant meaning in terms of the Climax Series race.
