Stephen Randolph continued to pitch well as he picked up a complete-game 1-0 shut out against the Giants.

The Giants had the perfect opportunity to score a couple of runs in the bottom of the 4th when Michihiro Ogasawara (1-for-2, 2 BB) and Alex Ramirez (1-for-4) led off the inning with a walk and hit, respectively.  But the next 4 batters couldn't get the deciding hit off Randolph: Yoshiyuki Kamei (0-for-3, BB) flied out, Yoshitomo Tani (1-for-4) grounded out, Shinnosuke Abe (0-for-0, 3 BB) walked, and Takayuki Terauchi (0-for-2) flied out.

In all, Randolph held the powerful Giants' line-up to just 3 hits and 6 walks (!) and recorded three 1-2-3 innings over 9 innings of work.

On the other side of the diamond, Tetsuya Utsumi also pitched well, holding the Bay Stars to just 5 hits and 2 walks over 9 full innings. His only problem: a home run by Shuichi Murata (1-for-4, HR, R, RBI) to lead off the top of the 7th.

The Swallows dropped a very important game against the Hiroshima Carp, 5-2.

An RBI single by Kenta Kurihara (2-for-4, HR, R, 4 RBI) in the top of the first with a runner on third and 1 out gave the Carp a 1-0 lead.  That lead would last until the bottom of the 6th when the Swallows finally managed to break through against Kenta Maeda when Jaime D'Antona (1-for-4, RBI) hit a single into center to score Hiroyasu Tanaka (0-for-2, BB, R) from second with 2 out.

The Carp retook the lead in the top of the 7th after Go Kida (1-for-3) hit a single with 1 out, was replaced by pinch hitter Masato Akamatsu (0-for-1, R), advanced to second on a sac bunt, and scored on pinch hitter Shigenobu Shima's (1-for-1, 2B, RBI) double into right.  But the Swallows managed to tied it again in the bottom of the 7th on Yoshiyuki Noguchi's (0-for-0, RBI) sac fly into center with the bases loaded and 1 out.

But Hiroshima took the lead for good in the top of the 8th: Takuro Ishii (1-for-4, R) led off the inning with a single and Soichiro Amaya (1-for-4, R) reached on a fielder's choice / throwing error that allowed Ishii to advance to third; Kenta Kurihara then followed with his 22nd home run of the year to give the Carp a 5-2 lead.
