Tokyo Dome | Attendance: 43,128 | Time: 2h 53m | Giants lead series, 14-6-3

The Carp fell further away from third as they fell to the Giants, 6-4.

A costly throwing error by Hayoto Sakamoto (SS) in the top of the first on a ground ball hit by Kenta Kurihara (0-for-4, R) with a runner on second and 1 out led to the Carp taking an early 1-0.  But that lead was quickly erased by the Giants offense in the bottom of the inning:

Hayato Sakamoto (3-for-5, R) and Tetsuya Matsumoto (2-for-3, R) led off the inning with singles.  Michihiro Ogasawara (1-for-3, RBI) struck out.  Alex Ramirez (1-for-3, R, RBI) followed with a single into left that tied the game at 1, runners on first and second.  Yoshiyuki Kamei (1-for-31, R, RBI) hit a single and drove in the go ahead run, runners on first and second.  Yoshitomo Tani (0-for-3) reached on a throwing error by Akihiro Higashide (2B) that loaded the bases.  Shinnosuke Abe (1-for-4, HR, R, RBI) grounded out and Ryota Wakiya (1-for-3, BB, 2 RBI) drove in 2 with a single into center that gave the Giants a 4-1 lead.  Dicky Gonzalez (1-for-3, R) stranded runners on first and third when he grounded out to third to end the inning.

The Carp made it 4-2 in the top of the 3rd on a sac fly Masato Akamatsu (0-for-2, RBI) following a 1-out triple by Higashide (2-for-3, BB, 3B, 2 R).  But the Giants quickly matched the run on Abe's 31st home run of the year in the bottom of the inning with 2 outs.

In the top of the 4th, Andy Phillips (2-fpr-4, HR, R, RBI) launched his 15th home run of the season to make it 5-3.  But the Giants once again pushed away with an RBI single by Ogasawara with runners on second and third and 1 out in the bottom of the inning.

Scott McClain's (2-for-4, 2B RBI) RBI single with a runner on second and 2 out gave the Carp their 4th run of the game in the top of the 6th.

The Dragons didn't put up much of a fight in the 7th (just one HBP) and went down in order in the 8th.  In the 9th, McClain led off the inning by hitting a double off Kiyoshi Toyoda.  But the next three batters failed to get the run home as Toyoda picked up his 5th save of the year.

Koshien | Attendance: 46,851 | Time: 3h 10m | Swallows lead series, 13-9-0

The Swallows beat the Tigers 6-4 in what may have been one of their biggest games of the season.

An RBI single by Yuji Onizaki (2-for-4, HR, R, 2 RBI) with runners on first and third and 1 out gave the Swallows a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd.  With runners now on first and second with only one out, Ryohei Kawamoto (1-for-4, 2B, R) grounded into an inning ending 6-4-3 double play.

The Tigers quickly answered back with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning: following a 1-out single by Craig Brazell (1-for-4, R), Kodai Sakurai (0-for-4) drove in the tying run with a double and came around to score on Akihiro Yano's (2-for-2, R, 2 RBI) single into center.

Unlike games in the past, the Swallows quickly followed with a 3-run third: after the first two batters of the inning were retired in order, Yusuke Kajimoto (2-for-5, R) hit a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch; Shinya Miyamoto (2-for-4, BB, 2B, R, RBI) tied the game with a double into right; and Norichika Aoki (3-for-4, BB, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI) drove in the go-ahead runs with his 16th home run of the year.

Not to be outdone, the Tigers pushed back to tie the game in the bottom of the 4th: Sakurai hit a 1-out double; Yano drove in Sakurai with a single into center; pinch hitter Mitsunobu Takahashi (0-for-1) grounded out to third, runner on second; and Keiichi Hirano (1-for-4, RBI) tied the game at 4 with a single into left.

In the top of the 6th, the Swallows pulled out in front again, this time for good: with 1 out, Onizaki hit his 1st home run of the year for the go-ahead run; Kawamoto doubled; Masanori Ishikawa (0-for-4) struck out; and Kazuki Fukuchi (1-for-5, 3B) pushed across an insurance run with a triple.

Ishikawa made the 2-run lead stick by retiring the final 16 straight batters of the game.
