The NPB announced that they are implementing emergency rules that will kick into effect today (10/9) and last on through to the end of the Nippon Series. The newly created rules will allow teams to add players to the active rosters without the regular 10-day waiting period if the team can also provide a medical certificate that claims the player they are activating had the flu (swine flu or any other variety).
The time spent off the active roster due to the flu will also be counted towards:
free agency requirements; and
any payments based on the number of days a player is on the active roster.
The usual 40-man eligibility rosters during the Nippon Series will also be temporarily lifted this season and will instead revert to the full registered rosters.
