The Eagles clinched second place by beating the Buffaloes, 4-3.

The Buffaloes scored 3 runs in the top of the second on a 2-run homer by Shinji Shimoyama (1-for-4, HR, R, 2 RBI) following a lead-off single by Mitsutaka Goto (1-for-4, R); and a run scoring ground out by Koji Yamasaki (0-for-3, RBI) with Masahiro Abe on (1-for-2, BB) second and Naoyuki Ohmura (1-for-4, 2B, R) on third.

After that, Hiromichi Fujiwara tossed 6 shut-out innings before making way for the bullpen in the 9th.  Fujiwara retired 9 straight batters at one point and never allowed a runner past first after the 2nd inning.

Kenta Satake and Kazuo Fukumori combined to toss a perfect 9th with Fukumori picking up his 10th save of the year.

The Eagles' offense did it's job of picking up Fujiwara after the one bad inning by scoring 2 in the second and 2 in the 3rd:

2nd: Fernando Seguignol (1-for-2, 2 BB, 2 R) walked on 8 pitches with 1 out.  Todd Linden (2-for-3 2B, R, 2 RBI) followed with a single into left that put runners on first and second.  A ground out later, Jin Nakatani (1-for-3) loaded the bases with a single into left and Yosuke Takasu (3-for-3, BB, 2B, 2 RBI) got the Eagles on the board with a 2-run single into center.

3rd: after the first two batters were retired in order, Daisuke Kusano (0-for-3, BB, R) and Seguignol walked to put runners on first and second.  Linden then delivered the big blow, a 2-run double into left, that gave the Eagles their 4-3 lead.

...Even though this was a game for the Eagles to celebrate, the fans still had enough left in them to start an "Oishi" chant at the end of the game.  Daijiro Oishi had already left the field and had to rush back out to tip his hat and take a bow.

...I attended the game and will try to post images from the game as soon as I can.
