Around the NPB Horn: Kurihara an option at third next season?

by on Oct.16, 2009 @ 8:10 pm, under NPB

Chiba Lotte Marines

...The Marines announced that Michio Aoyama will be the team's next Ichi-gun outfield fielding and general bench coach.  The team has assigned him the number 76.  Aoyama was a coach with Yokohama between 1993 and 2008.

Hanshin Tigers

...While nothing has been decided yet, there is a chance that Akihiro Yano will train outside of Japan during the off-season.

...The Tigers officially announced the additions of Atsushi Kataoka (Ichi-gun batting coach) and Yasunori Nagao (Ni-gun fielding and base-running coach) to the coaching staff earlier today.

Kataoka was assigned the number 88.  Nagao's uniform number changed from 91 to 70.

Hiroshima Carp

...Kenjiro Nomura joined up with his team on Friday for practice, which entailed BP and light training.

Nomura also had Kenta Kurihara take some grounders at third to see if it might be possible to convert him.

"Nothing is set in stone, but moving him to third would help make the team stronger," said Nomura.

Yokohama Bay Stars

...The Bay Stars split up their training sessions into three groups -- the major players / veterans (training in Okinawa), the pitchers (also training in Okinawa), and the younger position players (training in Yokosuka).

The younger position players practicing in Yokosuka will likely have the heaviest workload.

Yomiuri Giants

...Shigeyuki Furuki earned both his national and international FA options on Friday with his 9th full year of service.

...Makoto Imaoka and Tadatoki Maeda were seen training together at the Naruohama training grounds on Friday.  If neither player can find a new team to latch onto, they will likely attend the November 12-team tryouts.
