Cleveland Indians have their eyes on Takafumi Nakamura

by on Oct.16, 2009 @ 9:59 am, under College

The Cleveland Indians have expressed interest in Chuo University righty Takafumi Nakamura.

Nakamura is 21 years old, is 194cm tall and weighs in at 90kg.  He tops out at 149km/h and can throw a fastball, curve, slider, shuto, and fork.

The Indians have already contacted Chuo University manager, Yoshimasa Takahashi, to inform them of their interest.

"If he doesn't get picked in the draft then he can always go to the States," said Takahashi.

That’s pretty crazy as Nakamura barely plays (the starting duties have been left to Sawamura and Yamasaki these last two years for Chuo, Yamasaki being the kid I saw pitch 6 2/3 perfect innings a few weeks ago). I happened to see him pitch an inning last semester but it was just complete random chance that he finished out a game that Chuo was losing. I do remember noticing he’s very tall, and I do have photos…

I kind of doubt he’ll go in the draft, or at least I don’t feel like I’ve seen his name come up that much. Kind of interesting, I wonder why/how the Indians decided on him.

average velocity and a projectable frame is probably when the Indians like him. Are they looking at 175cm pitchers with the same stuff?
