...Bobby Valentine was a guest professor at Chiba University of Commerce while he was the manager of the Marines. The Marines have suggested that Tsuyoshi Nishioka and Tadahito Iguchi take his place now that he's gone.
"I think it could be good for the players to give lectures during the off-season. If it helps Chiba, I'm more than willing to help out. ... Iguchi has a wealth of information and has experienced a lot of things. Nishioka is close to the age of those going to college, so maybe he'll have an easier time fitting in," said club president Setoyama.
...The Tigers announced that Yutaka Tamaki underwent success surgery on his right elbow. Chief trainer Ishihara said that if everything goes well, he should be ready to play catch in November.
...New Ichi-gun batting coach Atsushi Kataoka's contract is for 20M yen a year.
...Hirotaka Egusa is working on the lower half of his body in an attempt to gain more stability when pitching.
...Masahide Kobayashi is on the Tigers' radar, but will likely not make any decisions about him until after the draft and all trade routes have been explored.
...Scott Atchison returned to the US on Friday. At this point in time, it appears likely that the Tigers will sign Atchison to another extension.
....The Tigers held a team meeting on the 17th prior to their Fall camp, which begins on the 21st.
...The Carp Fall training camp will run from 10/26 to 11/12 in Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture.
The Carp also announced uniform number changes for two coaches: infield and base-running coach Shinji Ko (77 to 71) and Koichi Ogata (9 to 79).
...Hirotoshi Kitagawa will likely stay with the Orix Buffaloes despite earning his FA option.
"I really want to play on this team right now. I also really trust Okada (manager). I feel like ending my career under him and I'd like to help him win," said Kitagawa.
Sponichi, however, carries a slightly different article, mentioning that Kitagawa isn't very hopeful about staying with the team.
The Sponichi article also mentions that Naoyuki Ohmura held preliminary talks with the Buffaloes and will likely stay with the team.
...Todd Linden joined up with the Ni-gun team for practice on the 16th.
"I'm just really sorry about everything, especially at this timing. The only thing I can do now is just concentrate on practicing," said Linden.

...Shuichi Murata apparently spoke his mind to the front office and was later quoted as saying, "Maybe it's not my place to saying anything, but the way I see it, this team needs to make some changes in order to win. It's not just about rounding up enough players to play, I want them to round up players that can help this team win."
