Around the NPB Horn: Marines, Buffaloes, Hawks, and Nishi pursuing MLB opp?

Chiba Lotte Marines

...Norifumi Nishimura vows again to make sure that his players are physically ready to play a full season.

"The players haven't been able to build up their bodies over the last few years.  I want to make sure that they are ready to play out a full year."

Marines' Fall camp for the veterans and main players began earlier today in Kamoike, Kagoshima.  Fall camp for the younger players started back on 10/16 in Satsumasendai, Kagoshima.

...The Marines announced that Yoshihiko Takahashi (previously the team's Ichi-gun batting coach) will be the team's new Ni-gun manager.

The following other changes were announced:

Seiji Kamikawa: Ni-gun infield coach / base-running coach > Ichi-gun infield coach / base-running coach

Yuji Inoue: Ichi-gun pitching coach > Ichi-gun bullpen coach

Kenji Morozumi: Ichi-gun bunting / first base coach > Ichi-gun outfield / base-running coach

Kenji Yoshitsuru: Ichi-gun battery coach > Ichi-gun assistant battery coach

Hidetoshi Hakamada: Ichi-gun batter coach > Ni-gun general coach

Toshihide Narimoto : Ichi-gun bullpen coach > Ni-gun pitching coach

Orix Buffaloes

...The Buffaloes announced earlier today that Nobuyuki Hoshino (previously the Hanshin Tigers' Ni-gun pitching coach) will be the team's new Ichi-gun pitching coach.  The team has assigned him the uniform number 71.

Softbank Hawks

...Jose Ortiz would like to return to the Hawks next season.

"I want to return to Fukuoka and play for the Hawks again next year," said Ortiz.


...Toshihisa Nishi is putting together a promotional DVD that he'll be sending to MLB clubs.  The promotional video runs about 10 minutes and features various shots of Nishi fielding and hitting.

Nishi is currently working out with a private trainer.
