Looks like opening up the draft to the public more was a good thing.
TBS is happy about their decision to set aside an hour of programming to cover the event, as it allowed them to be present during the NPB's test-run of having a live audience (1,000 fans) during the draft proceedings.
The report from Video Research (Japan's Nielsen) is also very positive: the show gathered a rating of 9.1% despite a 3:55pm start time. What's more, 28.8% of all TVs turned on were tuned in to TBS. (I know it might be a little difficult to wrap your head around the concept of how 9.1% can mean 28.8% of all TVs, but that's because the first rating is based on households while the second rating is based on ALL TVs within ALL households.)
And the NPB is happy that most of the fans that attended the draft, walked away satisfied with their opportunity to be a part of history.
Fans at the event were also given surveys that will help the NPB decide whether or not they will expand the event to the public even further next season.
