Yu Darvish to pitch in Game 7?

by on Nov.07, 2009 @ 2:39 pm, under NPB, Postseason

The Nippon Ham Fighters appear to have decided on pitching Yu Darvish in Game 7.

"He definitely won't pitch in Game 6," said Masataka Nashida. "He is prepared to start Game 7.  If we need to limit his pitches, then we may bring him in relief."

Masato Yoshii added, "We've thought everything through for Game 7.  Rather that use [Darvish] in relief for Game 6, we thought it might be better to let him go all out in Game 7."

The only problem is that Darvish still doesn't really know where he is right now in terms of his condition.  And according to Nashida, he's feeling tightness in his right shoulder from relying on his upper body so much to throw.

The Fighters will make a final decision at some point later today.

Question: If the Fighters make it to Game 7, do you really risk further injury with Darvish just so that the team has a better shot at winning now?

While Darvish is a valuable commodity, championships don’t grow on trees and the Fighters should do everything to win the title. After all, it took the franchise forever (44 years to be exact) to win a second title. Never know if they will be in this position again.

Before the series started, the Fighters were being coy about Darvish’s availability to pitch in the Series and then he went out to pitched a good game in Game 2. Maybe the team is playing mind games with the Giants.

Of course, it will be a moot point if the Giants win Game 6. But it would be a lot of fun to see if Darvish can pitch the seventh game. I want some drama!!

I guess we’ll never know if Darvish was really ready to start Game 7 or not.

It’s too bad the series is over now. I was really pushing for that Game 7… Would have been really interesting to watch.
