A group of businessmen announced on Tuesday that they were working on putting together a new Independent League in Hokkaido.

Dubbed "Baseball Hokkaido," the new league is set to begin in April of 2011.

Tryouts will take place next year in October and will be open players between 16 and 25 years of age.  The league will focus in on Hokkaido and will likely center around Sapporo and Otaru cities.

The league will begin with 2 teams for it's first year and then expand to 4 teams in 2012.  The season will be 27 games long and will run from April to October.  Player salaries will be in the 100,000yen per month range.

Economically, Hakkaido is going through some tough times right now.  Because of this, the league will not only focus on big corporate backing, but also smaller, individual sponsorships as well.
