...Taishi Ohta joined the Ichi-gun roster for practice on Tuesday.  He could be on the roster for the Japan - Korea Championships on the 14th.

...Marc Kroon will be returning to the team next season.

Kroon signed a 1-year deal on 2008 that included 3 option years that would kick in after each season, based on performance.

Kroon will be returning to the States sometime this week and will undergo surgery to clean out his right elbow.

Said Kroon, "[The surgery] is for next season.  I pitched through some pain this season in order to help the team win.  I want to pitch without pain, to play at 100%. ... Next season will likely become my last as a player.  It would be nice if I can end my career like Takuya Kimura did with another Championship."

...Tetsuya Matsumoto is the first player out of Ikusei status to receive a Golden Glove Award.

"I went through some tough times, but to get an award like this makes it all worth the while," said Matsumoto.

He added, "When I'm going after the ball, that's all I'm thinking about.  Building a strong body has allowed me to make some of these tough plays."

...The following two new coaches were introduced at a press conference on Tuesday:

Akira Etoh - Chief Ikusei coach

John Turney - Ichi-gun training coach

The team also officially introduced Yukio Arai (Ni-gun batting coach) and Katsunori Nomura (Ni-gun battery coach).

...Since 2006, the Giants have been sending players to schools under a program called "Let's return to our old schools!"  The team will be doing that again this off-season between late-November and early-December.

21 Giants' players will return to their old elementary schools to talk to children about their hopes and aspirations.  The players will also take part in classes and help kids out during gym.

The following players will be involved in the program this year:

Shinnosuke Abe, Tetsuya Utsumi, Noriyoshi Ohimichi, Michihiro Ogasawara, Daisuke Ochi, Yoshiyuki Kamei, Shota Kimura, Takuya Kimura, Takahito Kudo, Hayato Sakamoto, Takahiro Suzuki, Hisanori Takahashi, Yoshitomo Tani, Kazunari Tsuruoka, Takayuki Terauchi, Shun Tono, Kiyoshi Toyoda, Shigeyuki Furuki, Tetsuya Matsumoto, Tetsuya Yamaguchi, and Ryota Wakiya
