Just a few minor notes...
...25 members (coaches and players) of the 2009 WBC team showed up for the ceremony. Ichiro, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Kyuji Fujikawa, and Kosuke Fukudome were not in attendance.
...Atsunori Inaba has his sights set on the 2013 WBC (he'll be 41):
"I'd like to participate in it again. I plan on making it a goal. It'll be an honor if I'm selected. ... Putting the ring on now makes me remember how great it was to win the WBC," said Inaba.
...Masahiro Tanaka will be 24 for the 2013 WBC.
...You can find some pictures from the event over at Sanspo.
...And for those wondering about the ring itself:
The ring was created by Tenshodo.
Each ring cost about 1M yen (about US$11,000).
Made of 18K white gold, embedded with sapphires, rubies, and other gems to recreate the WBC emblem.
The player's name and uniform number are carved inside each ring.
Advance scouts and BP pitchers will also be getting a ring.
