Sanspo is reporting that Jose Contreras approached the Hanshin Tigers, only to be turned down by them.
Someone connected to the Tigers said, "It seems he wants to play baseball in Japan. We already turned him down, so there's obviously no chance of him coming here."
Another person said, "It seems like Contreras could be signed for cheap, so other clubs might be interested in him."
Sanspo guesses that Contreras could go for about 30-40M yen, but also warns that his skill set is in decline.
The Tigers probably made the right choice in turning down Contreras. I haven't had much of a chance to watch him pitch the last couple of seasons, but I'm guessing that the Tigers have better internal options available.
