Around the NPB Horn: Yoshii believes Darvish will be ready for Ichi-gun Spring camp

Chunichi Dragons

...Hitoki Iwase made some fans do a double take when he manned first base and batted fourth during an intramural exhibition game at Fan Appreciation Day on Saturday.

...Speaking at Fan Appreciation Day, Kazuki Yoshimi told fans that his goal for next season was to throw 200 innings.  Yoshimi finished the past season with 189.1 innings.

...Masahiro Yamamoto said that if things don't go well for him next season, he's fully prepared to retire.

Hanshin Tigers

...The Tigers are think Kenji Johjima is more than capable of batting 4th, but they also don't want him to get caught up on the hitting side of things.  That will likely lead to Johjima hitting lower in the order where there will be less pressure on him to hit.

Hiroshima Carp

...Shigenobu Shima participated in a blood drive held by the Red Cross on Saturday.

Nippon Ham Fighters

...Keisaku Itokazu held a baseball clinic for elementary kids in Ibaraki Prefecture.  Takayuki Takaguchi and Ken Miyamoto took part in the clinic as well.

...Yachiho Hoshino, earlier released by the Nippon Ham Fighters, has decided to call it quits but will be returning to the Fighters as a BP pitcher.

...Ni-gun pitching coach Masato Yoshii believes Yu Darvish will be ready for Ichi-gun Spring camp next year.

Orix Buffaloes

...About 13,000 showed up for Fan Appreciation Day on Sunday.

The team also presented all there newly drafted (and signed) players to fans at the event.

Softbank Hawks

...Nagisa Arakaki is working his way back from right shoulder inflammation.  He tossed a 70-pitch bullpen session yesterday on 3-days rest.

On the 24th, Arakaki threw his first bullpen session in 4 months.

...Tsuyoshi Wada could still earned his FA option with a full season next year despite the fact that he was only on the active roster for 99 days this past season (out of a needed 145 days).  But the Hawks may be willing to exercise a special provision that would allow them to add up to 60 days of service time to his record.  If they do, Wada would just need to play out a full season next year to earn his domestic FA option.

Yakult Swallows

...About 200 elementary school kids showed up to Shohei Tateyama's baseball clinic on Saturday.

Tateyama was selected as the Tateyama City's Ambassador of Sports this past January.

Yomiuri Giants

...Taishi Ohta's goal for next season is to make the Ichi-gun roster next season.
