by on Dec.03, 2009 @ 7:07 am, under NPB

Hanshin Tigers

...The Tigers re-signed:

Mitsunobu Takahashi - 25M yen (down 3M yen) sanspo

Katsuhiko Saka - 7M yen (down 1M yen) sanspo

Keiichi Hirano - 80M yen (up 11M yen) sanspo

Kodai Sakurai - 35M yen (up 15M yen) sanspo

...Akinobu Mayumi still isn't quite sure how he'll be using (whether it be as a starter or reliever) Tomoyuki Kubota next season.

...The Tigers held a tryout for Hisanori Nishitani on Wednesday.  The team could make a decision on what to do with Nishitani as early as today.

Nippon Ham Fighters

...Masato Yoshii wants to make Yu Darvish a temporary coach between 12/1/2009 and 1/31/2010.

According to NPB rules, coaches and managers aren't allowed to supervise their players between December and January.

Yakult Swallows

...Yoshinori is thinking about practicing the piano as a means to help control his blister problems.

Unless he plans on playing for long hours over many days, weeks, and perhaps months, I'm not quite sure if playing the piano is going to make the skin on his fingers any tougher.

An hour a day will toughen up the thumb and pinky pretty good. He’ll need more than two to get there with the pointer and middle finger, though, and this is assuming that he already knows how to play and can play songs difficult enough to tax his fingers.

And therein lies the potential problem. Just playing scales or simple beginner etudes isn’t going to really tax the fingers enough.

He might toughen his fingers more if he tried picking up a left-handed guitar.

Incidentally, I don’t remember my fingers ever getting tough by playing the piano… Unless I just didn’t realize they were getting tough, which is quite possible. I started with the bass fiddle so my fingers were used to a thrashing by the time I started messing around with the piano.
