Draft News and Notes: Kikuchi’s 1,000 yen a day allowance

by on Dec.11, 2009 @ 1:26 pm, under NPB

Chiba Lotte Marines

...The Marines are thinking about changing the offer they gave 3rd round draft pick Shota Ohmine.  The Marines originally offered Ohmine a contact worth 6M yen with a signing bonus of 40M yen but may try to lower both the yearly salary and the bonus.  The Marines may also try to downgrade Ohmine to Ikusei status, but that may not be possible since he was drafted in a non-Ikusei slot.

There are also rumors that he was caught smoking, but Ohmine claims he didn't.  Ohmine also began his first day of suspension and arrived at school early today to clean.

Chunichi Dragons

...The Dragons will hold a press conference tomorrow to introduce their newly drafted players.  There's also a good chance that the players won't have numbers on their uniform as the team scrambles to make some changes.  And all because Masahiko Morino suddenly decided he didn't want to wear the number 3 any more.

...The Dragons have to special order Ryoji Nakata's uniform because he's so big.  The largest size the team has (size XO) is apparently still too small for him.

Seibu Lions

...An interview with Yusei Kikuchi will be airing during the next broadcast of Get Sports (TV Asahi affiliates, 12/14 @ 12:15am).

...Kikuchi may have signed a hefty contract, but he'll only be seeing about 1,000 yen of it a daySho Nakata (HAM) went through the same deal during his first year and complained that he couldn't do anything with only 1,000 yen a day.

He also had his eyes checked.  Seems he no longer has 20/20 vision.

Yokohama Bay Stars

...5th round draft pick Takehiro Fukuda decided to drop out of the Kyoto University graduate program he was attending in order to focus all his efforts on baseball.  Fukuda has originally filed for a leave of absence but figured it would be best to just completely drop out.
