Around the NPB Horn: Yu Dravish doesn’t want to start the 2010 season at Ni-gun

by on Dec.12, 2009 @ 2:06 pm, under NPB

Chiba Lotte Marines

...Yoshihiro Ito and a Saya Nakanishi (former nurse) have already filed marriage paperwork and are holding a wedding ceremony in Fukuoka today.  They plan to begin their new lives together on the 17th.

The media has also learned that Yasutaka and Emi Hattori will be holding a former wedding ceremony at Chubu International Airport today.

Hanshin Tigers

...Should the Tigers win the CL title next season (and I'm guessing this also applies to the Nippon Series), Takahiro Arai would like Norihiro Akahoshi to join in on the celebrations, provided the club is ok with the idea.

...Kyuji Fujikawa will be donating a few signed items to the Kochi Horse Racing Association in an effort to help them raise funds.

...Sara Davis Buechner is an American concert pianist.  She's also a huge Tigers fans.  Buechner was in Osaka on the 11th for a piano recital.  She will be in Japan until July 2010 and plans on attending a number of games at Koshien next season.

Nippon Ham Fighters

...Yu Darvish doesn't want to start the 2010 season at Ni-gun.  Darvish also feels that his problems this past season came from over-work during the off-season last year.  To that end, he's taking this slowly right now.

...Yoshihiro Sato retired at the end of the season but is returning to the Fighters as a Ni-gun manager (not to be mistaken with kantoku, but rather マネジャー).

Orix Buffaloes

...Naoyuki Ohmura may have gotten a pay cut, but he won't mind as much if the ball club does something about the bathrooms at Skymark Stadium -- they're apparently old, dark, and smelly.

Rakuten Eagles

...Masahiro Tanaka is glad he didn't go to college, but wishes he could live an "ordinary" life.  As in, being able to go on a date with a girl and not having to worry about throngs of people crowding around him to see what he's doing.  I'm guessing this might have something to do with his run-in with the paparazzi mess he faced back in July.

Tanaka will be holding contract negotiations with the club on Christmas Day.

Softbank Hawks

...The Hawks will play an exhibition game against the Lotte Giants of the KBO on February 28th at Yahoo Dome next year.

Yakult Swallows

...Yoshinori Sato is getting about 200,000 yen a month from his parents.  With his 9M yen raise, he plans on asking his parents for 50,000yen a month more.

Yoshinori's parents are currently watching over his salary.

...Yuhei Takai prepared a 20-page report (which took him a few days to prepare) for his contract negotiations.  In it, he mentions his goal to attain the triple three: .300 batting average, 30 home runs, 30 stolen bases.

Yokohama Bay Stars

...The Bay Stars are mulling over the option to convert Seiichi Uchikawa into a first baseman.  But Takao Obana wants Uchikawa to play where he's most comfortable.  And Uchikawa is saying that he doesn't really mind playing left or first next season, provided a decision is made before Spring camp.

...Obana is leaning towards named Daisuke Miura the opening day pitcher (3/26 vs the Hanshin Tigers at Kyocera Dome).

Yomiuri Giants

...Kiyoshi Toyoda is heading off to Guam for training.

...The Ni-gun Giants took off for their victory trip to Guam on Friday.  A total of about 70 people (players, coaches, and various staff) are going on the trip.

In addition to being a Tigers “fans”, Sara is also a semi-frequent poster on Westbay’s site. She told the story a few years back when she was invited by the Hanshin owners to come to Koshien for a special tour and stuff… but now I can’t find the post, alas.

If you check her personal site (which I linked to above) and click on Photo Gallery, you can see her in a picture with Akinobu Okada back in 2008.

Yes, I’ve seen her site many times over the years, being as she has been an active member at japanesebaseball.com for the 6 years or so I’ve been on there. I was trying to say that the story of how she ended up meeting with the Tigers ownership was really funny, but now I can’t find it (and that itself is not on her site as far as I can tell, she posted it to Westbay’s site).
