Chunichi Dragons

...The Dragons announced that the exhibition game they will play on February 27th against the Chiba Lotte Marines at Nagoya Dome will be a retirement game for Kazuyoshi Tatsunami.

Nippon Ham Fighters

...Yu Darvish said that he plans to put Romash Tasuku Dass through some pretty strict training during the off-season, including making him increase his weight from 78 to 81kg.

...Satoshi Nakajima, catcher and battery coach, said that he wants Darvish and Shinya Tsuruoka to get their differences out into the open.  And not to just lay the blame, but to figure out what can be done to keep base runners from stealing on Darvish / Tsuruoka.

...Tsuruoka re-started his training again on Monday.  He had been fasting for 3 days to "reset" and purify his body for the upcoming season.

Orix Buffaloes

...Takahiro Okada took part in a New Year's Card PR event at the Kobe Chuo Post Office on Tuesday.  He stood outside in the cold, handing out packets off tissue to passersby.

Said Okada, "I won't ignore people handing out packets of tissues anymore."

...There was a party on Monday to support Akinobu Okada and his new start as Buffaloes' manager.  About 500 people showed up for the event.

During the party, Okada mentioned that he felt the Buffaloes has much better shot at winning the championships that the Hanshin Tigers.

Rakuten Eagles

...Masahiro Tanaka has his eyes on the ERA and wins title next season.  Tanaka finished the 2009 season with 2.33 ERA, good for third place, and was tied for second in wins with two other players.

Softbank Hawks

...Nagisa Arakaki modified his motion to keep his body loose right up until the point of release.  It's also apparently how Tadashi Settsu pitches.

He threw 50 pitches on Monday using the new motion and apparently felt that it allowed him to throw more with less strain in his shoulder.

...The Hawks will split their team into two groups for Spring camp next season.  Group A will begin run between 2/1 and 2/24 while Group B will run between 2/1 and 2/28.  Group A will also play also play about 3 games between the 20th and 24th.

The Hawks will hold their Spring camp at Ikime no Mori Ivy Stadium.

Yokohama Bay Stars

...Shuichi Murata met with fans at a Christmas Event on Monday.  He also proudly showed off his WBC medal to 100 or so fans that showed up.


...Former Nankai Denki Tetsudo owner Shigeo Yoshimura passed away on 12/9 at 11:59am.  He was 91.

...The 2009 Mainichi Sports Grand Prix Award was given to the 2009 World Baseball Classic team during an awards ceremony on Tuesday.
